Hi. Dh was transferred to the DC area, and found us a townhouse in Springfield, VA. Dd and I have been down south visiting family and will arrive at our new home Sunday. Are there any good playgroups/moms groups in the area? Dd will be three in December. She's an only child, but for the last few weeks has had lots of cousins on hand to play with. I'm really afraid she'll be quite lonely. And for that matter, I'll probably be getting lonely, too.
Also, what are the best health food stores to shop at?
TIA!

Oh you're going to be in AP mom HEAVEN!

I just moved out of Springfield and I miss my buddies!

Go to Attachement Parenting Int'l. website and search for a group near you. Email any of the leaders of the NoVa group and ask to join the Yahoo group and for the closest playgroup (should be Spfld/Burke). It's a really great, active API group with lots of wonderful people. You'll have no problem finding friends for both of you!

Health food stores are a-plenty! Whole Foods at the corner of Rolling Rd and Old Keene Mill. Trader Joes in Springfield Plaza--sort of in betw. Backlick Rd. and Old Keene Mill. THere's also a health food store in that plaza. THose are the closest in Springfield.

There's a really active online FNL (Families for Natural Living) Yahoo group where you can find info on co-ops and farm shares.

There's also local farmer's markets until October-ish. Check out the Fairfax County website for info on that. There's one in Kingstown (Fri. pm), one in Annandale (Thurs. am) and one in Burke at the VRE station (Sat. am).

Burke Lake Park has a little train and carousel and mini golf. Accotink has a carousel, mini golf, and boat rides (though I think it's being dredged right now). You can check out www.our-kids.com (or something like that) for tons of story times and kids' singers (Mr. Knick-knack, Mr. Don, etc.) who perform in the area. There's lots and lots of stuff to do!

Let me know if you have other questions!

Less the traffic, you'll love the AP community!

THere's also a NINO group, an EC group, and lots of LLL. ENJOY!

We live in Annandale, just up the road from Springfield!

There is also a LLL of springfield which is pretty active (I just joined last month). THey also have a playgroup - yahoogroups SLLLP - that meets weekly. Very nice moms.

Also, have you joined dcurban moms yet? Great mailing list for moms in the DC metro area. Mainstream, definitely, but I have found many NFL/AP moms on the board too and it is a great resource for info about upcoming events, etc.

And there is an extended nursing list for moms in the DC area - [email protected] (check out the yahoo group).

Welcome!!
