materials
Size 6 circular needle, 16 inches
worsted weight wool
stitch markers
5 or 6 1 inch buttons

sizes
NB(infant) toddler size added later

starting at crotch
CO 18(22)

K2 P2 ribbing for 1 inch

decide which is the right side and wrong side. I like my right side to begin and end with K2.

After ribbing for 1 inch....increase 1 at the begining AND end of every right side row anyway that you like continuing in the ribbing pattern until you have 60(66) sts on the needles.

PM (place marker) and CO 18(22) sts, PM and join to begin knitting (keep in ribbing pattern) in the round. Knit 3 rounds, then stop before first marker.

Ok guys, that's it for now....I have to figure out the placing of the button holes then I'll write more.

oh yeah, copyright 2006 blah blah blah, don't make money off of it blah blah blah

LOL
sorry guys, 1 inch buttons are too big, you'll need 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch depending on your gauge. I would wait until it's done to choose buttons

I'm half way into a wee little poncho right now, but when I'm through I'll dig out my Cascade again and give your pattern a shot. Are you surviving your week?

Robyn, it's ok if you get too busy, I'll just give you mine. It's grey and lavendar.
Note: after the button rounds is the perfect place to add short rows if you would like them.

Now we're going to reposition the stitch markers to the center front and center back.

Starting at the first marker, remove the marker and set it aside, then keeping in pattern work 9(11) and replace marker, then work in pattern removing the second marker as you go and replacing it after 39(44) sts. The marker at center back will be your new begining of round. This is the time to either change colors or stitch patterns if you wish. This is where the waist line would be. Continue working your sts in the round for 2(3) more inches.

Can I make a teeny suggestion?

Maybe post the additions to the first post as well, so those of us who will be starting late (yeah, me probably, not that I *need* another project) can follow along w/o trying to find all the instructions...plus we can copy/paste so we can print out a working copy...

Hugs,
tammy

Back
Knit to the back center marker, work 15(17) sts TURN and work 30(34) sts...keeping in your chosen stitch pattern.
If you are going to leave the onsie sleevles it's recommended to slip the first st of each row knitwise. Continue to work back and forth on these stitches for 2(3) inches. Work 8(10)sts place the next 14(14)sts on a stitch holder or waste yarn, then work the next 8(10) sts. Work back and forth on the nearest 6(8) stitches for 1 inch (about 3-4 rows) then bind of the same 6(8) sts in pattern. Break yarn and join to other side and work for 1 inch then bind off and break yarn. Leave the 14 back neck sts on the holder for later.

Cool! Thank you so much for doing this, moondiaper!

I'm getting frustrated by the Hannah's Onesie pattern so I think a froggin' I will go ... and start over with this pattern.

I just posted some pics on my blog of the sweater I recycled to get the yarn I'm using (a very soft silk/wool blend) in an oatmeal color. Of course, that last picture (of where I was on the other onesie last night) just disregard

Best Wishes! It's awful fun to have other mamas to knit along with

Front

Now, working back and forth on the front of the onsie......we're going to do one side at a time. Work back and forth on one side of the center stitch marker decreasing at the beginnig of every 2nd row at the inside edge of the neckline. Continue to decrease in this manner, keeping in your stitch pattern until you have the same number of stitches at the top of your front should as for the back 8(10). Starting at the inside edge of the neckline work 2 sts BO 3 then work till end of row. Turn, work until the button hole, then cast on 3 sts, work to end of row. Work one more row, then bind off in pattern. Then break the yarn and do the same on the other side of your center stitch marker. This will make a nice wide V neck.

I'll write the pattern for the neck ribbing and sleeves in a day or so, right now I have a major plumbing problem in my kitchen that I have to keep mopping up until the plumber comes tomorrow

Ok so I've caught up... however it looks strange to me. It's got a DEEP V-neck (think something Samantha would wear on Sex and the City), like it would go to the baby's belly button. Also, the front straps are MUCH longer than the back straps (at the shoulder) If it doesn't make sense, I'll take apix and show you... I think I've done something wrong. Unless things will change with the next part......

In on tee I've done, the deep v-neck is connected at the top by a button and loop. This makes it easier to get over baby's head. I have no idea if this is what moondiapers has in mind, but that's my one thought.

Well i may do a crochet border and put a button or two.. other wise my baby will be showing a lot of cleavage
I'm excited to finish this and see how it looks!

Back neck.
Ok ok, lol. This has a 3 part ribbed neck. Start with the back, pick up one stitch per row, knit across the held sts, then pick of one stitch per row again. Knit in a K1P1 ribbing for 2 rows. Then at the begining of each row bind off one stitch. Do this for 4 rows, then bind off the whole thing.

Right front neck
pick up 1 st per row and k1p1 ribbing for 2 rows. Then, each time you start a row at the top edge BO 1 st . Don't bind off at the bottom of the V. Do this for a total of 4 rows (you'll bind off 1 st 2 times at the top). Repeat the process for the other side.

If you feel that you need more rows in your neckline go ahead and add them

When looking at the front of the garment the ribbing at the front of the V will not be completely attached, just tack it down with a yarn needle and yarn when you are weaving in your ends.

Sew your buttons on the top of the shoulders and Button the garment closed.

Sleeves

If you choose to do sleeves, pick up the sts around the arm holes while the shoulders are buttoned closed. When you get to the top of teh shoulder you will bring the picked up stitches through both the button band and the button hole band. This will make your armhole closed and the shirt will only open at the neckline.
