I have been given celexa today for (what I think are ) OCD symtoms without the c. I have been fearful of a lot lately and now I am scared to death to start the meds for fear I will not be able to take care of my daughter and the kids I sit for.
I know you can't tell me how it will make me feel, but some more insight would be great. I was given 20 mg. How long before I feel effects? I have not had any suicidal thoughts, but fears of dying and the warning label has me freaked out. Help me take it please.

Aww.

I know its scary to start meds, especially with the horror stories out there. Its a risk yes but keep in mind that part of why you are struggling with the decision to take them may be due to the reasons that you actually need them...if that makes any sense

I felt the same way but now that I am taking them, I feel so much better about it...because I feel better!

I take Celexa and like it and have done fine with it.

If you are going to experience any negative side effects, you decide if they are worth waiting out a few weeks to see if they pass or if they are unbearable. If you start feeling really funky, stop taking them (or wean, however your pdoc recommends).
Make sense?

It can take a few weeks to kick in, get over side effects etc but I know for me, with SSRIs I start to feel them right away, which is a plus

I take celexa now and love it. I take mine right before bed though because it does tend to make me very drowsy (I take 40mg). I had been on lexapro before and just felt *not as bad*. But now on celexa I can say I almost feel *good*!

You may have some side effects for a while, but they do generally tend to go away after a short time. And remember it can take a while to feel the meds really take effect. So don't give up on them too soon!

Well it has been 2 days and so far so good. I am waiting for pms time which will be the real test.

Thanks for the responses. They have helped.

One more question concerning alcohol. Can I ever drink? What is the general rule on this med? Any experience?
