Morning Sickness Subsiding!!!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! I am due Nov.2, so I am probably a little further along than most moms on here, but I wanted to say that I am still a few weeks away from the second trimester and yesterday and today I have been really energetic and feeling great!! I am still drinking 100ounces of mineral water a day and eating 100grams of protein (I am still nursing), so that might have something to do with it, maybe my nutritional stores are finally replenished, but I feel great!!

I'm so jealous.

I'm 8+ weeks and nothing is letting up at all. Last time I kept puking until 4 months or so, but I do remember still feeling a lot better a little before the end of the first trimester, maybe around 11 weeks?

I think protein would help me a lot, but I can't manage to eat very much of it. Dairy makes me feel terrible, and I can't imagine eating eggs, and then meat products are so hard to prepare (looking at the raw stuff is just no fun). So I pretty much only eat protein when someone else can prepare it for me, which usually only happens once a day. How have others dealt with this? What do your 100 grams of protein look like?

Lex
I'm due Nov. 1st if you take into account luteal phase length, mine is about 16 days or Nov. 3rd if not. So far I'm not feeling better. Actually this week has been worse due to postnasal drip, probably due to allergies (everything is in bloom). But I usually start feeling better at 12 weeks so not too much longer.
I am happy for you, jealous too though. lol

I probably get no where close to 100 grams of protein a day, that would be an enormous amount for me. I do have to eat about every two hours (getting very very old). How do you get in 100 grams of protein a day (I'm vegetarian and I don't eat cheese or much dairy exept the occassional icecream, no eggs either)?
I am only 6wks 1 day and mine just started about two days ago!!!! I have a long way to go.

I'm sorry (((HUG)))! Maybe yours won't last very long or get very bad.

i try to get 100 grams of protein a day too. the easiest way for me to get it is to just eat normally and add in a protein shake in the morning. depending on what i prepare it with, it's 20 -25 grams of protein and i drink it with my breakfast. you can get protein powder at the health food store or trader joes, probobly most places. i do designer whey because it tastes decent and doesnt get clumpy. i eat after my first puking session of the day, drink my protein shake, and then i usually have a few hours where i feel good enough to do some playing with the kids.

you have to remember that while meat and dairy are good sources of protein, its in pretty much everything. a slice of whole wheat bread has 4 grams, and a tablespoon of peanut butter has 4.5. so a peanut butter sandwich has 12.5 grams of protein. super quick and easy, and a decent amount of protein.

a box of annies whole wheat organic shells and cheese has 30 grams of protein. a lot of days thats my lunch because it doesnt smell when i make it so i can actually eat it when its done, plus 30 grams of protein is great.

just that right there is almost 70 grams. its easier than you think.

awww, lex, that stinks! i was hoping you were feeling better.

I 2nd the protein shake. I do a 100% egg albumin one (no egg flavor) and i mix it with milk and ice cream and a banana in the blender. It's great! Maybe that type of dairy would be tolerable (milkshake)?
I just got this box of pasta called "Barilla plus" in which they blend in different legumes and flax into the pasta for extra fiber and protein. One serving has 10 grams of protein and a bit of fiber as well. It doesn't taste that different than regular pasta either. I figure it's better than my usual comfort foods of white rice, white bread, and regular pasta!
I admit, on the days when I'm feeling my worst, I haven't been so good about protein. But on the days when I can manage it, I get it through milk/cheese, whole grains, meat (we are big meat eaters here) and eggs - though those are usually the last to get squeezed in there. Oh... and peanut butter.

I'm following the "diet" given in Bradley courses - and drawing info from Brewer's diet, too...

Both sites give ideas of protein if you're running short of ideas, too.
To the OP, I am so glad you are feeling better. I cannot tell. One day is good like today so far. And then another day not so good, like yesterday when I had a cough and postnasal drip and threw up 3 times. I usually stay sick the entire pregnancy, so I am trying to pace myself I guess
.

I am due November 10th, so I will give it to the end of the month and then I am off for the B complex/folic acid cocktail my midwives injected with the last baby.

Feel good everyone

My 100 grams of protein look something like this
Ezekial toast with almond butter 12g
Milk 8g
2 hard boiled eggs 12g (less sickening than scrambled for the queasy)
Oatmeal 5g
Trader Joe's mini quiche 20g
Roast beef sandwich 28g
Cottage Cheese or yogurt 8g
Chicken or Fish for dinner 21g
Brown Rice 3g

Plus lots of fruits and veggies, but I don't know if they have any protein. See, it isn't so hard! You just have to make yourself do it for about 2 days and I think most people see improvement. Don't forget to stay hydrated to keep the kidneys moving and flushing out all those toxins. I also eat local, organic/free range meat, eggs and dairy, so I don't feel like I am being bombarded by hormones and antibotics. I admit it is easier for a meat eater and I am opposed to processed soy, so I don't drink protein shakes (although I would in a pinch).

Most if not all veggies and fruit have protein! Some have quite a bit actually. I am going to start paying much better attention to my nutrition as soon as this morning sickness passes (which please let it be soon)! I am going to try and follow the Brewer's diet adapted for vegans. But I'm not sold on pregnant women needing 100 grams of protein. I have read good things about it and bad things. Ugh like every other health issue, there is so much conflicting info. I'm just going to try and listen to my body and do what feels right.

Heather

P.S. ezekial bread is yummy (well I thought so before I got pregnant
).

I don't think all pregnant women need 100g of protein. I think it depends on your nutritional needs and what your body is depleted of when pregnant. Cultures that have higher protein diets tend to not experience morning sickness or nausea in pregnancy. In my case, I am nursing while pregnant and had my ds just a year ago, so I probably have depleted a high amount of nutrients. I am eating this way in response to all three factors, not just pregnancy.
I am feeling better...finally. It's only now getting to where I think it's actually true, though. A week ago I was still fearful of another surprise day of fatigue - I had no idea which days would be good and which would be bad. But after about ten good days, I'm thinking perhaps we're on a roll. My appetite isn't great, but it isn't bad anymore either. I was really struggling, but now I seem to have either adjusted to having to cook when nothing sounds good or I'm getting past those early queasy weeks. Hoping feeling better is here to stay...
I'm at the end of wk 11 and read this post yesterday and was thinking me, too, it seems to have gotten much much better. Then BAM this morning I was getting ready for work and a wave of ickiness came over and I had to run to bathroom and puke - which was actually the first (and hopefully last) puking of the pregnancy (I've been feeling quesy, etc., gaggy but the food never came back up). I hope that was the last harrah of my first trimester and I can move swiftly now to the blissful middle months!
I'm like the pp - 11w3d and I hope/think the worst has passed, though m/s didn't really kick in until 9w and lasted until about the beginning of week 11 - so I am not sure that its gone for good, but I am looking forward to the second trimester!
