I really want to learn how to do mosaic projects. A friend of a friend made this terrific coffee table (she found a plain old wooden one and refinished it and did a mosaic on the top...) I saw some kits you can buy online at craft stores to do like picture frames or vases, it this a good way to start? Is it super hard? I looked locally for classes and haven't been able to find anything in my area. Does any one have any reccomendations for a first-timer???

I did this as a group project once. It wasn't too hard. Everyone brought in tile pieces they had purchased (at most craft stores), or tiles/plates to break up (much chearper). We used some kind of adhesive to stick the pieces onto our surface. Then we grouted the whole project, wiped it down, and waited for it to dry. We had several sessions over the course of about 3-4 weeks. You could probably find more about what kind of adhesive and grout etc- online. I wish I remembered more.
