We are co-sleepers completely. (will probably stay in guest room with new baby till bigger to move in with dad and big sister)

So we really wouldn't use a basket for night time, but would y'all still recomend I get something like this?? I sort of just want one. I like the idea of having a place for bean when I need to do something with my toddler.

I loved my moses basket and used it all the time with my son. With my daughter, I didn't use it as often. For what it's worth, we slept very closely with my son, but didn't have him in our bed until he was around 6 months old (it was a new concept to me, really, and I was terrified of my heavily-sleeping husband rolling over on him or something). He slept in the moses basket, in a bassinet right next to my side of the bed. The Moses basket was nice when we travelled, too--it was familiar and not bulky like trying to drag one of those "pack and play" things along.

With my daughter, she co-slept from the time she was born, so there was little need for the Moses basket. She napped in it a few times, but we could have certainly done without it.

I got the first years 5 in bassinet at a consignment shop and the top of the bassinet comes off and is portable so it is like a non-bendable moses basket. I co-sleep too but like to have somewhere for baby to sleep during naps were she can't roll off the bed.

For daytime napping I've used one of those bouncy seats that has the "kickstand" that turns it into a more reclined seat as well? The one we have converts from laid back sleeper, to bouncy/vibro chair, to toddler rocking chair and cost something like 30 dollars at Target.

We were given several with dd1 and found them handy for bathroom visits and random "put baby down" moments.

I love this idea, but whoa, the good ones are PRICEY. The organic ones run up to $300. Get a regular one and organic sheets? Get over it and get a conventional one? How long can babies use these anyway? Some of them I've noticed say, "handles are not intended to carry baby" -- that seems odd. Are we talking 2 mos here? 4? 6?

When I mentioned to dp that I really liked the idea of a Moses basket, he looked at me as if I had suggested we move to Egypt and find Moses himself. Like, "wtf for?" I didn't even tell him how much they cost! Ds who has been hearing the exodus tale this passover season, on the other hand, was super thrilled and told me that my idea "made sense" (his new phrase).

When ds was an infant he would not tolerate being put down for any length of time in any of those bouncy seat thingies, so they all went totally unused. I am so hoping for that not to be the case this time around, too. I'm thinking that having a safe, cozy spot to put him down will make all the difference. Ha.

A babe can use a moses basket for a couple of months, depending on their size and how quickly they grow (and on temperment of course). Very much a "first month" kind of sleep space. Especially since the sides may not be good for a babe who is rolling over. But after that the basket is still handy for holding toys or diapers or whatever.

And yes, many are designed to be more "decorative" than "functional" and for liability reasons they're going to say "don't carry baby in this".

I don't think I'd pay more than 40-50 dollars for a Moses Basket, just because I wouldn't be using it long. If I was concerned about the environmental impact I'd look for a gently used basket (since reused conventional is often a lower impact than a new organic) and then use organic sheets. When dd2 napped in her bouncy chair we just covered it with a soft cotton blanket first so she wasn't on the poly fabric.
