I had my dd on my porch last night and now she has 2 mosquito bites. Does anyone have any ideas for what I can put on them so she won't itch? Also what do you use when you go outside? I want her to get fresh air but not if shes gonna get bit up out there.

Lavendar water works to keep bugs at bay but it will corrode your spray bottle. You have to keep in in a dark colored glass jar. Its completely safe but there is something in it that doesn't mix well with certain materials. Also, I bought a bar of soap made locally that works to keep bugs away. You can either rub it directly on your child's skin or use it during a bath. It will be absorbed by the skin. It's natural and totally non-toxic and the gentleman who makes it said that he has been making this particular soap for something like 8 years. Here is his website. www.sunriseshowers.com

When we were little my mom had us put toothpaste on the bites to keep them from itching. It depends on where the bites are. You don't want her to eat the paste. Also, are they bothering her yet? If not, then pretend that they aren't there.

Witch hazel helps my mosquito bites, so when my kiddos get bitten, I dab a little on them, too.

When the bugs are really bad (and they often are here in MN, the Land of Monstrous Mosquitos), I find it's best to dress the kids in lightweight long sleeves/pants. When bug juice is necessary, we use either the Little Forest or Burt's Bees brands. They work for an hour or so.
