What a strange picture. What a strange situation. I agree truly that women are amazing, miraculous- however the logical side of my brain is screaming "OWWWIEEE" and what are you going to do as the fawn is bigger, and what is the fate of the deer once it reaches adult hood? Dinner? Very strange picture indeed.

I can't view the photo, but I'm assuming it's a human woman with an animal nursing? And people find that strange, which it is, except that humans drink animal milk all the time.

Wow!<br>
That's- I don't know- weird to see, but amazing. And why not? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"><br><br>
I have to agree I started thinking about when the fawn gets a little bigger- ouch? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/shrug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shrug"><br><br>
It's pretty cool though that she thought "well -there is a young baby who has lost it's Mama and here I have all this milk so-"<br><br>
I don't think *I* could do it personally but there you go- it takes all kinds doesn't it? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/heartbeat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="heartbeat">

I just looked it up. This woman belongs to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishnois" target="_blank">Bishnoi</a> community in India which holds animals and trees as sacred and considers protection of life as a holy responsibility, to the point of even sacrificing their lives to save them. Deer and other animals are allowed to peacefully graze on their fields and co-exist even though the desert region they live in has a scarcity of water. So when the fawn gets bigger, I guess it'll just graze and hang around like the rest! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/treehugger.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Treehugger">:

The fact that she is feeding the deer human milk doesn't bother me a bit. The fact that she is teaching the animal to have that sort of interaction with a human worries me. Deer are fairly aggressive animals as it is and it worries me to think about how pushy this animal will be as it grows up. Although when I think about it... deer aren't real able to hurt humans.<br><br>
I don't know. Hm. I have mixed feelings.

Oh, <a href="http://www.bloggingwv.com/corn-fed-venison-it-looked-good-on-paper/" target="_blank">aren't they</a>?<br><br>
I think it's beautiful that the people of this community take the lives of animals so seriously. She probably didn't have resources like bottles and formula, and it was this important to her that the animal survive. Don't think I could do it myself, but it's beautiful and miraculous.<br><br>
We think it's cool when an animal mama fosters an animal baby of another species; why not a human mama?

I personally find this picture beautiful and amazing. It is unbelievable how some mothers can mother anything, even if its nonhuman.

Wow. Yeah, I could honestly see myself doing that if I had to, but I'm pretty out there anyway. My only concern would be that it looks like it HURTS! Definitely not a great positioning they've got going on there! I saw something similar of a woman nursing a baby oranguitan and that seemed to work much better.
