Unless it just got past me, I have never noticed Mothering publishing an article on Diaper Freedom, or EC. I think this is a very important topic that a lot of moms would try out, if they ever read about it. When I talk to new mom's about, they either say "ewww" or "wow, that is neat, but it never ocurred to me". Of course, it was done for thousands of years, and still is done in many other cultures. It answers the debate of cloth vs disposable with a resounding: NEITHER!
I hope that it wouldn't offend the multitude of diaper companies who advertise in Mothering, but I think this is becoming an important topic. I might just try and figure out how to write them a good proposal...
In my experience, doing EC in combination with cloth was a good solution.

It would be great to see an article in Mothering.

I would also love to see an article--we need more awareness in this area.

rumour-mongering here, but I recall soon after the EC forum started some EC notables said that mothering has turned down EC articles on more than one occasion - perhaps feeling it was an extreme or impractical practice. Maybe there's something in the archives? I would love to see an EC article, but probably I'd start by talking to mothering with a proposal - perhaps the articles were turned down for other reasons. But several years later, citing the editorial calendar for why no EC article would hold little water.

I'd love to see Mothering do an EC article too. I KNOW there's lots of interest in the topic, and I too found cloth diapers and EC went well together. EC doesn't mean NO diapers, ever, it just means you use the diapers differently (back up for those inevitable misses, not wearable toilets). It's practical enough that I could do it with my 4th child while caring for the other 3, AND potty training my diapered 3rd child.

There's even interest in EC when I post about it on "mainstream" boards like Babycenter and Ovusoft! It's a topic whose time has definitely come!

it was this thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ad.php?t=23817 pages 4 and 5. Cynthia's advice at that time was that sending letters requesting an article to [email protected] is the best route of expressing our opinion on editorial decisions.

A friend of mine just had a query letter (about doing an article on EC) returned...they "passed" on it due to backlog of articles.

personally I think it may have something to do with the fact that cloth dipe ads are their bread and butter.

hmmm...will i get in trouble for saying that?

it's too bad. i really think more people need to hear about EC. it's like this completely overlooked aspect of our children that would help explain soooo many things...such as fussiness at the breast, crying, night waking etc.

While I agree with your statements about EC, I think a cogent letter to the Editor would be more effective than speculation about the possibility that our host's choices about editorial content might be financially-driven.
