how old is your dd? my ds started sleeping on his tummy around 3 months. i allowed it because he was strong enough to lift up, and he slept much better that way!

as far as cracks...i usually surrounded him with pillows building a fortress of sorts so that he just rolled onto pillows. i know it's probably not 'recommended' but it worked for us.
