DS is 26 months and wanting to start using the toilet. Sometimes. And tells me when he's peeing or pooping, all that. Also he is HATING diaper changes. So I am thinking it's time to let him work on that....I am totally lazy and would just as soon keep changing diapers as try to get him to a toilet in time, but I guess I should go with him on this.

Trouble is, he wears pinned cloth diapers, and they are a pain to get off and back on. But he doesn't have the control yet for training pants, or for no pants (also it's getting chilly). I don't want him to get frustrated (or me to get frustrated) by lots and lots of wet pants, wet floors, etc.

Anybody else negotiated this in-between time without going to disposables? I really want to stick with cloth. If I lived somewhere really warm, and we could just move outdoors for a while, that would be perfect; maybe we should move to the tropics.

We have carpet so I didn't want dd to be diaperless until she got better about trying to use the potty. I had some MotherEase Onesize dipes for her that I just put on her coverless with the largest snap setting. When she peed she immediately knew they were wet and took them off herself. When she pooped she told me and I changed her. They held more than the training pants do. I also agree about trying a snappi! The things are awesome!

we have cloth training pants that I found at the good will. They have an outer nylon cover, but on the inside are like regular cloth training pants (thick, but shaped like undies). They worked very well IMO. Do you use covers or the pull on kind of pants? You could just put training pants on then pull a "plastic" pant up over them.
Of course, moving to the tropics is a nice option too

Good luck!

ditto what serenetabbie said..Now ds wears training pants or..after the poop of the day, big boy undies. When we go out we add plastic pants to the big boy undies incase of accidents, and bring a potty seat with us in a canvas bag to use while we're out.

Well, I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I know that Happy Heinys makes training pants that are stuffable just like the diapers, but they are just elastic around the waist and legs, no velcro tabs. You can stuff them with your prefolds so you'd still be getting good use from them.

Personally, I'd just go with regular training pants around the house, if he's a really heavy wetter, you can always use a diaper doubler in them or put a diaper cover over them. For going out, you can get training pants with the leakproof outer.

Thanks!

I don't know why I hadn't thought of putting his rubber pants over the training pants. How sensible. That will probably solve the problem, although stuffable training pants are tempting.

And I was just trying to decide which tropical island to move to... oh well, I guess it's winter in Indiana again.
