My husband got a job at Thermo fisher in Weaverville. We currently live in an Rv full time and are going to try a few campgrounds before picking a base (wilson's rv park, French river, and campfire lodgings-anyone have experience with these?)
anyway, i'm also looking for
mom's group (I have a 19 month old and baby due in Aug)
pediatrician (that's ok with selective vax and extended bfing)
ob/midwife (onboard with natural birth and no interventions. I don't think we will have very good insurance. I'd prefer a birthing center above all. I'd do a home birth but that's not practical in an rv)
fun things to do (libraries, kids play areas, outdoor activities, farmer market, whatever!)

If you can help with any or all of that I'd appreciate it. I'd use the search but my only Internet is on my phone and it's impossible to search on it. Thanks and hope to meet some of you soon!

I visited my aunt when she was camping at a camp ground right on the French Broad River. If that's the one that you're talking about, I liked it. It's really right on the river (flooded big time during our big floods a few years back), and I know that for tents at least you can be sort of secluded. I don't think it's that secluded for RVs, though.

The only birth center in NC is in Chapel Hill, which is 3.5 hours away. There's also one just over the border in SC near Charlotte, but that would still probably be 3 hours. The hospital in Asheville, Mission St Joseph, is known to be very mom/baby friendly, though, and has tubs in some of the rooms.

you might want to join the Asheville Mamas yahoo group for some more local resources. I'm still pretty new and we live South not North but the group should be helpful http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ashevillemamas/

Welcome to Asheville

We love our ped/family practice doc~ Dr. Ehrsam at Family to Family http://www.familytofamily.org/index.html They also offer midwifery care (at Mission Hospital, unfortunately no birth centers here) but I have no personal experience with them for births.

Not sure about Mom groups, I never got around to joining any, but I have a toddler a few mos older than yours who likes to play with other kids.

There's at least one park in every section of town; post when you decide on a camp spot & I'm sure one of us can tell you the closest ones.

I have heard great things about family to family. I'll definitely be checking them out. And if you ever want to try a playdate shoot me a message! I'm pretty
shy myself but I try to push myself so my kid can meet other kids

i second FTF! they helped deliver my daughter, and it was definitely a "homebirth at the hospital" vibe! they are fine with no/selective vax and they are holistic. check them out!
