dh and i will be moving to jersey in a few weeks. i'm looking for some things to do in the area with a 7.5 mo dd. things to see, places to go, groups that meet. i only know one or two people, and they're my dh's coworkers, and are single men...so needless to say i'm hoping to connect with some other moms. i'd love to maybe do some things in nyc, but am a little squeamish about it....i'm not a native city dweller, so i'd need some direction on what to do and how to get there (i do have the path mastered! and proud of it!!)

thanks in advance.

I'm not too familiar with things to do in JC, but Hoboken is just a light rail ride away. For things to do in Hoboken check out www.hobokenfamily.com. Hoboken also has 3-toddler playgrounds (http://www.hobokennj.org/html/eservices/espvr.html Columbus, Church Square and Elysian) that you will enjoy when your DD begins to crawl. They are also great places to connect with other moms.

In Jersey City, I am familiar with Music Together (http://www.musicplaystudios.com/) and The Little Gym (http://www.thelittlegym.com/gym/default.aspx?gymid=231). I haven't taken DS to any classes there, but I know people who have and they were happy with them.

Easy, fun activities in NYC are Battery Park Park (I'm not sure what it's called), which is at the NYC side of the ferry (departs from Hoboken ferry terminal), Central Park Zoo (take PATH to 33rd and N/R to 59th -- I think), Prospect Park Zoo (PATH to ??? don't know the connecting train to Brooklyn but it stops at the Park/Zoo), AND Manhattan Children's Museum (http://www.cmom.org/). I've never taken DS to Chelsea Piers (http://www.chelseapiers.com/fhCPKids.htm), but it looks like fun.

My DS is 2.5 yo so may not be the best play date for your DD, but I know what it's like to make the move so feel free to contact me when you get settled.

Good luck with your move!
