Hey any Knoxvillians. We're in the process of relocating to Knoxville and I'm really needing to find a tribe. I'm so happy to be moving back to TN after living in Florida for the past 11 years, but I'm totally out of my comfort zone. In Jacksonville I have an amazing group of natural parenting mamas, doulas, childbirth educators, etc that I'm friends with and I'm really hoping to find the same in Knoxville.

So, I guess, if you're in the Knoxville area I'd love to start a dialog... I have so much to learn about the area and am really hoping to find some friends that don't think I'm a total weirdo for the semi-crunchy lifestyle we live.

We'll be living in the Karns area.... not too far away, right? Or is it? I get so confused with all the different areas. I just know we were looking to get a little more rural.... right now in FL we're in the middle of everything and I hate it.

Are you a part of a play group or local message board or anything like that? I just noticed that there isn't a lot of Knoxville dialog on this tribal area...

knoxmoms.com is a local message board. it's not necessarily crunchy but there are crunchies on it. I'm not personally aware of any groups at least I'm not involved in any but I have a 5 year old and 4 year old girls and a 3 month old boy. I think Karns is on the west side of knoxville as is Cedar Bluff and I'm not far from that either.

I moved to Knoxville from Florida too. Are you ready for allergy season?

Yep, Karns isn't far!

We don't have a play group. I keep thinking I should look for one, I just get so busy with the new baby...

Hi! Welcome to Knoxville! I'm new to posting (!) but thought I could give you a little more info, if you haven't found much yet (I see your initial post was a couple months ago). I know of three fairly crunchy groups around town, and have attended at least one meeting of all of them.

Holistic Moms is probably the most crunchy, and you can definitely get connected with like-minded folks through that group, and also get recommendations for local health care practitioners of all stripes.
They meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 at the Bearden library branch. You can attend any meetings, but have to join to have access to some of the other activities: the online forum, playgroup, craft night, mom's night out, and hikes.

La Leche League has a morning and evening meeting, also at the Bearden library branch. I don't know if they do any other activities.

Attachment Parenting International is the group I personally am most involved in. We meet on the last Tuesday (not 4th, but LAST) of every month, at 10:30, at the Cedar Bluff library branch. At each meeting, the leaders select one of the 8 tenets of Attachment Parenting as a discussion topic, although additional AP-related questions are always welcome. We just had our June meeting this week, and the July meeting is going to be at the same time and place, but a playdate rather than a formal discussion. We also have a playgroup that meets every Thursday at 10:30 at various locations. We have the occasional mom's night out and all-family gatherins, as well.
PM me if you'd like to show up for playgroup, and I can give you details (location is usually decided by the playgroup organizer a day or two ahead of time).

Welcome to Knoxville, and I hope you are able to find your niche here!
Carolyn

Thanks everyone for your replies! We were supposed to move the first of June and thanks to mortgage issues didn't get moved into the house until the first of July, so I'm still in box unpacking Hades. LOL I appreciate everything and look forward to perhaps meeting some of you when I get totally settled and involved.
