Ok my best freind and her Dh just closed on a house, not sure excate location, but his new post of duty is scranton.

She is due in Nov and he DH is bugging her to see a doc NOW -- so he is gonna be bugging her till she gets someone found.....

Are there any great CNM offices around there -- her DH will not go for a HB as their oldest had a bad time of it and was in NICU for 8+ weeks (7 years ago)?

Which hopital is the best to deleiver at? does it have NICU?

What about a good Ped? (older boys at 7 adn 5)

It will be a while, but by this summer i expect she will be willing to try a moms group / play group or two.

ANything you can tell us would be great......

Thanks

Aimee

hi there. do you mean scranton? we live sort of near there in wilkes barre. i'm not familiar with the hospitals around here, i'm sure some other mamas on here could help you out with that.

good luck to your friend with her move!
yes -- see i told you I suck big time at spelling.

thanks

Ok, birth options here stink. No CNM in Scranton. Most people deliver at Moses Taylor Hospital, but I have recently left the big practice there as they are out of control in my opinion. I am now going down to the practice at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre. I have had one appt there and am happy so far. It is a smaller practice with only 4 drs, so I like that part better. I don't know about NICUs, but I would think that GWV has one, and they are in the Geisinger system so if there are any major problems the child would be transferred to Danville, which is a really good facility.

As for peds. We are lucky here to have a great one. Dr Rogan at Geisinger Lake Scranton. He is both a ped and an internist. He is top notch.

thanks
ok Ladies,

Her Dh is bugging her to see an OB NOW -- so she has to find someone as soon as she moves later this month.....

any names???

Aimee
The practice that is in Carbondale and Honesdale and does births at Wayne Memorial in Honesdale does have I think 2 CNM's and 1 OB and may not be too bad. No one that I'm close with has birthed with them, but I've heard positive things from acquaintances, and no horror stories. I'm trying to find someone for gyn care right now and I may end up calling them. I think I'm just dragging my feet.

Well, like I said, I go down to the OBs at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. I have had only 1 appt, but liked it so far. It isn't anything special, but I like it so much better than the practice at Moses Taylor, which is the real popular one these days. GWV is in Plains Twp (basically Wilkes-Barre), but is a short drive from Scranton, only about 15 miles on the highway. It is right off the highway, so it is a real feasible option for those of us in Scranton, although most women in Scranton don't even consider it.

There's one CNM in Scranton... Her name is Shelley Rosenberg, and she works at the Woman's Wellness Center that's attached to Mercy Hospital. Her's the link for the birthing center at Mercy. It also has the contact information for her office.

I've seen Shelley in the past, and while I like her and her birth philosophy (she used to be a homebirth midwifre), I'm not thrilled with the OB she works with. Just fyi.

I have heard that she either doesn't deliver anymore or perhaps only during regular business hours. That info might be old, but just so you know.

You're right. She's isn't on-call anymore. So in essence, a baby would need to be done cooking during regular business hours for her to attend. That's an important piece of info that I should have included in my original post. Sorry for the oversight.
