Hi!

We will be moving to Severna Park in a few months and I am in need of several suggestions!

First, I am looking for a Pediatrician. We have not vaccinated our son and I'm not sure we are going to. I would like to find someone that is willing to accommodate our requests and not battle us at every visit. I can travel if it's the right practice.

Second, does anyone have any preschool recommendations (two year old part time program)? We would like to stay in the Arnold/Severna Park area.

Lastly, since this will be our first experience with school does anyone have any recommendations on how to handle the vaccination waiver? One of the schools I found requires a medical form be completed by our current Pediatrician. The doctor is required to sign acknowledging that a physical examination was conducted and they can state whether the child is medically cleared to attend child care. Does anyone know if a Dr. can say no to that based on no vacs? Our Ped tolerates my wishes but is definitely not in agreement. In fact, he recommend my child be away from all other children at all times (don't get me started). I can only imagine the lecture and lack of cooperation when he finds out I am considering sending him to school. Afraid he may make it really difficult!

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions/recommendations.

I'm not sure about pre-K programs for 2 year olds -- might be more daycare/nursery/toddler program rather than pre-K? We've liked Pasadena Early Learning Center on Rt 2. (church-affiliated) for ages 3+. There is a Goddard School in Pasadena with a toddler program. (I know that is not Severna Park but it is next door, easy hwy access)

If you don't vax your ped doesn't need to be involved in the school's immunization form at all. You just sign the religious exemption, don't even give the vax form to your ped. I don't know about a 'medical clearance' to attend school, I think it's just date of last checkup & any issues the school needs to worry about while the child is in their care (allergies, vision/hearing problems, etc). Hope you find a ped you like & can work with!

I loved Children's Manor Montessori in Columbia. I know you said Arnold/Severna Park area, but it was really the best.

Broadneck High School has a morning program too that their students run through one of the classes. Mrs. Petitt runs that program.

I took my son to Dr. Fitch for his 1yo WBV. She was great and office was great but she told me if he wasn't vaxed by 18mos she'd have to kick us out of the practice. And my son had a rxn to his DTaP/Hib at 2mos for which our previous ped filed a VAERS. She tried to scare me about killng unborn children if my son got rubella. Too bad, I loved her up to that point.

We see Dr. Sears in clarksville. She has a waiting list and is on spring break til the 14th right now too. We drive too see her though- love her.

Thanks! I have heard great things about Dr. Sears and would love to get into that practice. It would be worth the drive! I may try to see about getting on the waiting list but I have a feeling it's a long one! Won't be getting my hopes up

We just went through this touring/research process, too. We were looking for full time care, though.

I liked the Goddard School in Pasadena very much. We decided against it, as both hubby and I work in Columbia and we wanted some place closer, but I thought the administrator/head of school I met was great and the teachers all seemed very enthusiastic (but young). I did also tour the Goddard School location in Columbia (100) and liked it, too. That facility is NAEYC accredited.

However, we decided to go with the Young School in Columbia (King's Contrivance). Definitely a bit of a drive from SP/Arnold. They do have a Gambrills location but I haven't looked into it. My DD hasn't started at YS yet (June 1) but I am very excited for her.

My DD is at a KinderCare in Columbia and while I like her current teachers, I was (still am) hesitant to move her into the 2s classroom (which would have happened this summer). I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was a few things that I just didn't like and decided to trust my instinct.

I hope you find the facility you're looking for.
