I have different types of carriers - a ring sling, a Moby Wrap, a Baby Trekker. I also have a mesh ring sling for the shower and pool, but haven't used it yet. We haven't had a chance to go swimming yet!

I can understand having two or three ring slings/pouches - one for the car, one for at home and one for wash day - if you wear your baby a lot.

I got a ring sling before #3 was born because it looked like something I could figure out and they were really the rave then.

I wanted a Baby Trekker because I thought it would be good for babywearing while being rather active (this is what I use to cook, wash dishes [ha] walk on the treadmill [ha HA!], mop the floor). I also thought DH might be more inclined to use the Trekker than the ring sling with a long tail.

I'd been drooling over the Moby for ages and decided to take the plunge and try it out. By that time, my ring sling was getting uncomfortable after 30 minutes because my 20lb+ baby pulled too much on my shoulder in the hip carry. The Moby solved that problem AND is just as convenient for in-and-out babywearing sessions (running errands, family functions, little league games). It also still feels great after an hour or so.

I love all my carriers and still use them all. I use the Moby the most, and wish I'd had that one when he was very tiny for a tummy-to-tummy carry because he really got lost in all the ring sling fabric at first and the woven fabric wasn't as forgiving on his little head as the slight stretch of the Moby would have been.

I think the perfect carrier stash is different for everyone based on their activity level and amount of babywearing. If you were to ask me, "What do you think the perfect babywearing collection should include?", I'd say:

1. unpadded ring sling (with generous shoulder cap) or pouch
2. wrap carrier (Moby or EllaRoo - in that order)
3. a Baby Trekker

If I had to pick just one, I'd go with a wrap and it'd probably be the Moby (NOT an UBW, though. That is just too much stretch for me.)

I have 9 or 10 slings. I have pouches, ring slings(padded & unpadded, solarveil, mesh & flannel), wraps in different lengths & Asian Baby Carriers.

For long walks i use the wraps or ABC's, for short trips I use the pouches or wraps. Which one I use depends on the weather and how long I"m going to be gone for.

I wanted to try different slings and carriers with different shoulder styles, different rings, different ways of being folded, different degrees of padding, different fabrics, etc. To me different ones are comfortable for different things, ie. if I'm working in the garden I want a light weight ABC because it's hot and I want baby on my back so I can still do the things I need to, or if I'm in the shower or pool I want a mesh ring sling because I want him tight and secure against me and I don't want that wet t-shirt feeling agaisnt my skin.

Around the house I still wear ring slings, I love the adjustability! When we go for walks/hikes I wear ABCs, because they're so comfortable and I can wear 2 kiddos, something I haven't mastered with any other type of sling/carrier. When I'm in a rush I use pouches, they are so simple to slip on or off and get the baby in or out of that I love them!

I have two Maya Wrap Slings. I bought the second one b/c the first was so bright and clashed with some of my clothes. DH liked the first so that became his sling. For us to each have one meant less adjusting when we used them (DH is a big guy!).

I also have a Maya Wrap Pouch. I bought it with my first sling b/c I couldn't decide which would work better. I ended up using the pouch alot in the early weeks. And then I kept it in my diaper bag so I always had one around "just in case" I forgot my sling, etc.

I bought a Hip Hammock when DD began to show a strong preference for the hip carry. The Maya worked, but the HH was easier and faster to put on/off and required no adjusting for the perfect, comfortable fit.

I'm going to get a fleece pouch for this baby since he won't be born in summer like his big sister. My mother has offered to make it for me. I also think we'll pick out a length of fabric to try as a wrap carrier. I've been wanted to try those - they seem comfortable, but a bit bulky, so it's usefulness might vary with the situation.

Hey, you can never have enough slings!

I have a padded ring sling, an adjustable cotton pouch, an adjustable stretch hemp pouch, and a Moby Wrap. (And an adjustable fleece pouch on its way to me.)

They serve different purposes. The ring sling is an old standby and superfast for me to throw my toddler in and run into the post office. It's so adjustable, I can position him around my big pg belly. The cotton pouch is for my new baby due during very hot weather. The fleece pouch is for cooler weather. The hemp pouch I wanted to try because I didn't have anything with stretch. And the Moby I have because of the zillions of options and the ability to wear a baby for a long period of time.

I have 3 ring slings. I bought the Maya first, before ds was born, because I knew the most about them. My next sling was my solarveil, because we are outside A LOT and I wanted the protection from the sun for ds. The third was a mesh sling, because I wanted something else cool for the summer in a neutral color (my solarveil is turquoise to match my bathing suit; my mesh is white) that I could use when not in the sun too much. I like them all for different reasons. Maya - keeps ds warmer on cold days, has the pocket (neither of the others do). Solarveil - sun protection, nice long tail for added sun cover, easily adjustable. Mesh - really nice and stretchy - ds seems most comfy in this one!

I want to get a pouch next just to try something different. I am probably going to make myself one to see how I like it.

Ok, we have several, DH would say too many, carriers:

Hemp fleece adj pouch: 1st sling, great for the first few months in the cool weather, I'll use it again next fall/winter.

Hotsling stretch cotton pouch: current fave for quick errands, very versatile and easy to use.

Moby Wrap: Best carrier for long trips and walks, or housework. DH's fave, other than his Bjorn (I don't count the Bjorn because I've never used it)

Ergo: Just go this, practicing getting DS in by myself. Doesn't do my baby flab any favors, and you get this bionic boob thing, but extremely comfortable for long carrying, and active stuff. We gave the big dog a bath with DS in this yesterday.

I still want an ABC, and an unpadded ring sling, with pouch. Then my collection will be complete for any baby-wearing situation!

ITA that you can't have too many slings
I have the following

1. black silk Zolo- ring sling, very versitile and comfy, dressy, goes with everything, makes me feel like a princess
:
2. cream KKAFP- AWESOME for the winter, I loved this with my newborn, I can't wait for it to get cold again so I can get it back out.
3. Kozy- wonderful now that DS is older- I can cook, do housework, and go for long walks.
4. and 5. Hotslings- I have a blue stretch and Hula Mama regular pouch- I use these when running errands and for quick trips. I love the ease of use of the pouches.
6. White Solarveil sling- great for the pool and the beach. I am still undecided about this one. I like it in the pool, but still not thrilled with it. I'm giving it more time.

I also have multiple slings so I can coordinate with my clothes.

Bought a NOJO with first pregnancy, ds #1 didn't like it. ds#2 loved it but nearly flipped out backwards from flexing his little legs at 4 months old. I then invested in a Mayawrap they were deeper by a few inches. I used that one exclusively.
Then just in the last two months, I made a solarveil sling for myself to use at the pool or local lake beaches this summer.
I am looking into another style sling b/c dd likes to face outward and hates inward unless she is nursing.
