My ds is 3.5 months, and his dexterity is rapidly improving. So now I am reevaluating the safety of using his flats as diapers/light blankies/burp cloths.

They are cotton flats, washed on hot and either sun dried or dried on hot. They look and smell perfectly clean. But now he can grab the rag, wrap it around his hand, and suck on it. Yikes! Is is clean enough for that to be safe?

I could wash and store the burp rags separately from the diapers, but I plan to use them ALL as diapers in the event of a hurricane (power outages).

What do you think? What do you do?
Thanks!

If it were me I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh, good. 3 votes for not worrying

Unless someone pops on with a really compelling reason that this is an unsanitary and dangerous practice, I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing!

I did/do the exact same thing with my prefolds- my ds had reflux, so he puked constantly, so I used the prefolds he had grown out of for him to throw up on- and now he loves one for bedtime, so he gets whatever is clean to snuggle with!

Oh, please. They're just germs! A healthy baby can handle a few extra germs once they're old enough to start mouthing things -especially germs that originated in their own GI tracts!!!
