I'm planning on a natural birth at the hospital in May. My birth plan includes music brought from home -- now I just can't figure out what music to bring! Can you help me load my iPod?

I have some very soothing Indian music for a relaxation playlist, but I'd also like the following:

- Romantic music for swaying with my husband during early labor
- Upbeat music for getting psyched up for hard work
- Inspiring music to remind us how important this is and that we can do it

Anyone got some recommendations? What did you/will you listen to in labor? What songs make you think of it now?

I had a waterbirth @ home and had made a mix tape on my itunes and when it came to the time of labor all I listened to was my hypnobabies CD's for 9 hours! They were a major help, whenever I would get off track mentally the soothing direction of the tapes calmed me and got me focused!

I plan on going with songs I know most of the words to-- which means old alternative, metal, some weird stuff done in the 80s-90s. But it makes me happy, it's what I listen to when I'm cleaning the house, making love, creating-- you know, the background music of my life. And it doesn't really matter if it's fast-paced or slow, because it's like wrapping up in my favorite blanket, or my favorite jeans
I don't want to be annoyed by music I don't know I know how I am, if the song just keeps goooo-ing and I don't know when it's going to end, I'll be irritated :

Ooh, I do like this idea. Morrissey got me through high school; he can surely get me through labor!

My OB just about cracked up when he walked in and we had the CD player cranked to AC/DC "Thunderstruck" as I was beginning to push

I have 2 suggestions....for a romantic swaying song how about "Danny's Song" by Kenny Loggins. (here's a link to lyrics http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/ww...ina/10721.html)

For me, I kept hearing the song "Hard Sun" by Eddie Vedder while pregnant. For some reason, it just really moved me and I kept thinking of it while mentally rehearsing for the delivery phase. For some reason it made me feel powerful and connected to the collective female rite of birthing. I never turned my CD on, but this song was playing loud and clear in my mind when I pushed my son into the world. It's from the soundtrack for the movie "Into the Wild".

I had everything loaded into my Ipod (and by everything I really do mean all kinds of music) and I didn't want any of it. Only Silence. It's good to be prepared, though, with whatever makes you happy, peaceful, or powerful.
