Music for the pregnant?

720 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  newmommy7-08
So I've been in such a crummy mood with this pregnancy, today I decided it was time to do something about it. So I turned to one of my favorite things...music. I decided to make a pregnancy playlist of songs about being pregnant, pregnant ladies, childbirth, etc to make me smile and be grateful to be "in the family way."

Well, I sort of hit a snag in that I've only found one song so far...Ready or Not by Jackson Brown. Mind you, it is a good one, esp. the first verse "My baby's feeling funny in the morning, she's having trouble fitting into her jeans. Her waistline seems to be expanding, although the never feels like eating a thing." That is so me right now! But well, one song does not a playlist make.

So, any suggestions from all you mama's out there? I'll take songs from any genre, just as long as they relate to being preggers!

"Capri" by Colby Caillat
"Eat For Two" by 10,000 Maniacs
"The Things We've Handed Down" by Marc Cohn
"Blessed" by Elton John
"There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney
"You're Having My Baby" by Paul Anka, though I'm not a big fan of that song
Lauren Hill- "Zion"
Faith Hill - "A Baby Changes Everything" (Xmas song, but whatever...)
Sarah McLachlan - "Do What You Have to Do" (actually about miscarriage - very sad)
I think there's a Citzen Cope song about his wife being in labor. "Son's gonna rise in a mile" or something like that. I just remember dh being on a Citzen Cope thing when I was pg with DS1. I think its about them being in the car on the way to the hospital??
There is an awesome CD by Plumb called Blink. Plumb is a Christian singer, so the album has a hymn on it and a song called "God Will Take Care of You" but I think those might be the only ones that are really religious-type songs. She wrote this CD for her son and it's just beautiful...it makes me cry (especially if I've having a rough day with the kids!). There's a song on it called Me that goes....I haven't had/ A chance to sleep/ and when I wake/ I wake with your dreams.....and later..Me/ I wouldn't trade your love for all the candy/ in this great big world/ Me/ I feel so crazy blessed and oh so lucky/ To be the place you go/ when you need to feel safe/ when you need a kiss/ it's me. And "Blink": I'd like to remember/ I'd like to know all you are/ I'd like to know everything you'll be/ Where will you go?/ What will you do?/ When the world's right in front of you?/ When I think of how slowly life passes by/ then I'll blink and you're growing, no longer a child/ What can I do, to capture this moment in time/ is to sing you a lullaby. I also really like "Sleep" and "In My Arms." And if you're into the hymns, I love her version of "Children of the Heavenly Father."

It's more baby/child related but I think would be good for pregnancy too.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! Several songs I forgot about, and some I've never heard of. I'll have to scout them out and create a playlist. I'll try to remember to post it if I manage to create a good one.
"Danny's Song" by Kenny Loggins... although it makes me sad now that I know we'll never have a son. But for someone having a boy, it's an awesome song! A tear-jerker.

Check out these beautiful lyrics:

People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one, and we've just begun,
Think I'm gonna have a son.
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove, conceived in love,
Sun is gonna shine above.

Chorus:
And even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning when I rise, you bring a tear of joy to my eyes,
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

Seems as though a month ago I beta chi, never got high,
Oh, I was a sorry guy.
And now a smile, a face, a girl that shares my name,
Now I'm through with the game, this boy will never be the same.

(chorus)

Pisces, Virgo rising is a very good sign, strong and kind,
And the little boy is mine.
Now I see a family where there once was none, now we've just begun,
Yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun.

(chorus)

Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup, drink it up,
Love her and she'll bring you luck.
And if you find she helps your mind, buddy, take her home,
Don't you live alone, try to earn what lovers own.
