My ds (16 months) is driving me crazy because he must have both boobs available. He nurses for for about 2 minutes on one side and then MUST have the other boob. What is this about? Do they taste different? This has been going on for a couple of months and its driving me crazy (especially when we are out in public). Am I the only one with a two boob baby??:

Don't you know one side makes chocolate milk and the other apple juice?

My older dd was the same way, she said it was because she got more milk out that way.

Mine has been starting this recently. He nurses for a while on one side and then requests the other. We've always nursed on just one side at a time, so this is a little annoying sometimes. I suppose I could be making less milk.

My 19 month old has been doing this for a while. Also, sometimes when I'm nursing her to sleep in the side-lying position, she'll stop after a few minutes and root upward for the other breast. I'll turn almost onto my stomach so she can have it, and then she'll do the same thing a few minutes later. I guess in her half-asleep state she's dreaming that I have hundreds of boobs and she can keep switching to the next one. When I try to offer her one of the two that I do have, she fusses for a moment and keeps rooting up, and then settles for one. :

That's exactly was DS does at night . . . searches for the lost boob.

Not sure if you want to hear this but my dd started the same thing around 15 months and 8 months later she still switches back and forth . One time she nursed on one side for 10+ minutes and I thought "wow...she hasn't done this in a long time". I then realized she had a fever and was sick so I guess she was too tired to put forth the effort . I don't mind for the most part. I wish she didn't do it at night because I can't fall asleep with her nursing when I have to switch sides 5 times. In public is kind of a pain too but at least she is starting to understand that she has to use the cradle position and move back and forth rather than just sit on her knees and have both sides available

no - you're not alone!! ds, 19 months, loves to have both exposed . He gets very mad when one is still away!! He's been this wy for months and I don't see it changing anytime soon - luckily he doesn't ask to NIP!!!

My DD, too. Now she says "Utter one please" & switches back & forth. At night she climbs over me to get to the other side. LOL

My dd is 28 mos. and this is how it has been for awhile now. She nurses for as long as I will let her on one side and then she cries "Switch!" and nurses on the other. When she's done she says all done and gives boob a kiss and covers it up. If I try to get her to stop before she wants to she will just switch back and forth until SHE says she is done nursing. It makes me crazy!:

My DS at nearly 27 months does this and has been doing it since he was about 15 months old. He did it so much last night that I lost sleep!

Another 16mo double-boober here! It's making NIP almost impossible... Both must be uncovered and available at all times. Sometimes in the night he also seems to be searching for a THIRD one and gets really mad when he can't find it. I guess it would be funny if I weren't so sleep-deprived

My right side is chocolate and my left is vanilla. She'll take a sip from one side, then from the other when we're at home. In public, I'll take one out, she'll take a couple of sips, push it back in the bra and vigorously point to the other one. It's quite funny really.

Now that is the sweetest thing I've heard! I guess our babies do appreciate all the work nursing can be.

nak...i was just about to post the same thing ...dd prefers both out and if I don't let her do that (especially nip) she isn't thrilled. So she dips her hand into the other side and twiddles around in there...which doesn't thrill me.
When we are in bed she tries to keep both out and has to at least have a hand on each one whether she is 'using' it or not...
She is also doing a lot of drive by nursing recently...so of course I am getting all the negative comments, when they're old enough to ask, when they start undressing you...blah blah blah...:
I so feel you mommas!!

mine is driving me crazy with this! She'll switch back and forth over and over, try totwist the nip on the one she's not using. Argh. Trying to get her to just use one gets a tantrum as if I'm refusing to nurse at all.

This is totally DS too!!! I call it his *boob buffet*

I never thought to let it annoy me though...he's getting the milk...and I'm getting a chance to love and hold my baby a little longer....I'm saving up all that for the days he won't let me hold him anymore.

I never really understood Luke 2:19 until I became a mama!!!

Luke 2:19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
