MW in Indiana?

Is there a site to help me find any midwives in Indiana? I've had 2 babies, both in the hospital, and they were fortunately, pretty good experiences.

But I think I'm a good candidate for homebirth and would LOVE to try, but live in a very small town, and I'm not sure if I could even find one. Is there a website or phone number I could call or something to find out? That sounds really dumb! But I don't know, sooooooo......please, spam away regarding this!

Where are you in Indiana?
My preceptor is in Bloomington, but she serves about a 2-3 hour radius. Her name is Jennifer Williams, and her email is [email protected]
If you are out of her range, she would be a great resource for other parts of the state.
Good luck!
I'm in Newburgh ,Indiana.Near Evansville.

Let me know if I can help in this area.
I had a great homebirth 30 min nw of bloomington. There are lots of midwives around, and really great community support.
feel free to pm me

I'm way up north, just south of ft wayne.....I'm not sure how far that is from Bloomington though....going to check on a map!
Anybody know of a midwife in the Indianapolis area?
I do not. My friends who live in Indiana told me homebirths were illegal in Indiana, which horrified me, so perhaps you might find one affiliated with a hospital. OR find one 'underground', ifkwim.

They are not illegal so long as the midwife is certified... lay midwifery is illegal however, and using one is considered aiding and abetting, and sometimes worse...
Indiana law does prohibit a midwife attending a birth, unless she is a CNM. They can be arrested for practicing medicine without a license, and Indiana does not license midwives. Each time a midwife attends a birth, she is putting herself at legal risk. Homebirth itself cannot be prosecuted, and the parents are relatively safe UNLESS it appears that they have made a decision that is harming their child. That would be determined by the county's prosecutor, who I am sure knows so very much about birth and its safety.

I am near Indy, and I know most of the midwives who serve this area if you would like to PM me. As for living just south of Ft. Wayne, there are a couple that I believe travel that far north. If not, they could certainly recommend someone for you.
