Louis is a fine name. I bet its not overly popular right now either. And you could do Louise or Lois if its a girl.

However, I don't let the siblings name my babies. My dh and I name the babies.

One of my best girlfriends was pregnant when her son was 4. The whole entire pregnancy, I mean since the day they told him he was getting a baby brother or sister in 7 months, he called that baby "spider". The baby's name was going to be spider, no talking him out of it, just insistent.

By the time she was born, we all were calling the baby spider.

We have never let the children name the babies either. Input is great, but never final. He is so convinced that this is the baby's name that everyone in the house now refers to the baby jokingly as Louis too....

Last pregnancy my 3 year old friend suggested "Stella" or "Superman" for my gestating child. As it was a girl, my belly was called Stella the whole time. This time, my 2 year old has named my belly "Cheerio" and my sister's belly "Blueberry." We've made it quite clear though that once the babies are born they will have different names! Kinda fun...and I kind of wish we'd stuck with Stella as the name really grew on me.

Louis (is that like Lewis, or like Loo-ey?) could be good if it works for your family. I take inspiration from wherever it comes!

My niece kept saying that her baby sister's name would be Devon, since she knew there were babies coming. My sister hated that name, but figured, what's the harm in letting her think that for now?!
When the twins were born, said niece was trying to correct people, saying, "no, her name is Devon!" we all just sort of ignored that part of the conversation and went along using her correct name. now the "D" word is forgotten a mere 12 days later. what's the harm in letting him have his fun?

and IMO, Louie is a cute nick name for a little boy... so it wouldnt be terrible if it was added to your list of considered names...

I was pregant with our son when Meet the Robinsons came out and our DDs wanted to name the baby Louis or Wilber, like the characters from movie. Thankfully their obsession had passed by the time Gabriel was born.

My 5 year old has named the baby Jedidiah. (After Jedidiah on Night at the Museum). It's been on a possibilities list for all 3 boys, but has never stuck. We'll see for this one. We do like suggestions from the siblings but mom and dad have the final say.

My dd has suggested calling the baby Ms. Rose

Thankfully she is warming up to the other choices!

Well I was named by my sister, my parents only had boy names chosen since they were certain I would be a boy. Ha!
Friends of ours gave the name their kids chose as a middle name.
I wouldn't want to set a precedent for all time, since kids can come up with some awful names, but I also think involving them is great! And to be honest Louis made me go "aw". It's cute.

At least it is a name. My 3 yo DD has named our's "sister". Yep, as a name. Whenever we say "How about we name your baby sister ________," or "Isn't ______ a good name for the baby?" She says quite firmly "No! Her name is Sister!" Too funny.

Louis is nice (I'm thinking Lew-ess) traditional name, but if your toddler is like mine the preference will change in a couple weeks.

I'm 100% positive that if my 2 year old were more verbal and fully grasped the idea of the fact that there is a baby coming that we need to name, he would insist it be named 'Nemo'.

And you know...Nemo isn't a half bad name if it weren't for the dang fish.

My cousin's 4 year old keeps advising me to name the new baby "Baby Cain". (Baby Cain is my first son.)

I like Louis...(Prn Lew-y) It's sweet. Better than Nemo.

I take what I said back...I'll name a kid Nemo any day...so long as we never have a child named Sausage!

I actually think Louis is a really cute name!

Better than what my daughter absolutely INSISTS this her little sister will be named....Butterfly Necklace. When I refer to the baby as "Romy" in her presence I am very quickly corrected..."No, Mommy. You mean Butterfly Necklace!"

Sausage takes the cake, though!!!!

<---DDCC to say, obviously, I think Louis is a swell name! (Louis is my nickname that developed from being named Cindy and being called Cindy Lou Who for years and years)

I don't have any kids around yet, but I think its sweet that your little one came up with a name for his sibling.

Really, Sausage and Butterfly Necklace?!? These kids are hilarious!

OK, I am so happy my son is not calling the baby sausage!!!! OMG! lol. Or necklace!! and as for Nemo - you could always go Matrix and call him Neo... At least it's not a fish!!

My husband told me last night "you know whatever we name the baby he will forever be called Louis..."

I am trying to go for Benjamin Louis for the name but nobody in the family is on board.

He is pronouncing it "Lewis". But all I can think of is someone yelling "Hey Lou" - in a super thick NY accent!!

My 3 year olds name is Luke. SO I may have a Luke and a Louis - and my husbands name is Lee... I guess it fits with the family names.

Thanks!!

p.s. if it is a girl, then I am off the hook - her name will be Rosa Noelle

I really think Louis is a great name! Lovely and not overly popular.

Good luck! Sometimes I think these kids are onto something, not that in the end you aren't the parent and get to ultimately decide.
