I live in Mesa - but work in Phoenix. I soooo wish I could come to your party but I work 8-5 on weekdays.
We should get together though!

Are you doing a homebirth or at a birth center?

Darn - we will have to get together another time. Are you working right up till your EDD? We're doing homebirth, I can't remember - what are your plans? Feel free to email me if you want to chat more and perhaps arrange a play date....

I am delivering at Phoenix Baptist w/ an OB and a doula. My OB is pretty alternative and let me do things my way w/ my first pregnancy and birth so I am happy to stick w/ him. Since PB is connected w/ the birth center they seem to be a lot less *medical* when it comes to having babies. And now they have re-done the entire L&D unit so there are whirlpool tubs in each room which I am excited about!

We will for sure have to get together another time!
I've had really good experiences at Phoenix Baptist with doula clients - three in the last year. The tubs are great - just don't let the nurses get lazy and not want to fill them for you...I had one client who didn't get to use them because by the time they finished all her admitting stuff and finally agreed that yes, she was in labour, she was so far along they told her there was no point

I've actually only done births there with the MW's from Bethany Birth Center, but overall I'm really impressed. Only one of my clients even had to go to triage, the other two were taken right to their rooms. No IVs, doppler monitoring except for the first twenty minute (and one didn't even have that), birth balls, rocking chairs, etc.

I wonder if I know your doula??

My doula is Lori Isenstadt - she teaches the BFing classes at Phx Bapt. and works at Best Fed. She doesnt work as a doula much anymore - only for special cases and agreed to be mine because I know her. I met her when taking the bfing class when pregnant w/ Maxi and then saw her at BF when we had thrush when he was 18 months old. After that we just kept in touch and when I got pregnant she agree to *come out of retirement :LOL * to be my doula. I am so glad too because she knows all the nurses there and she knows my OB so hopefully everything will go smoothly!

I would have gone to the birth center if I didnt love my OB so much - but I really wanted him to be my care provider so stuck to the hospital. The only way he can deliver at the BC is if he is on call for one of the midwives and all the other midwives cant make it - so VERY slim chance!
