My (next week) four-year old is weaned! He weaned by contract, aka we talked about it for weeks and weeks, and at the suggestion of someone here (thanks whoever you are) we made a paper chain to count down the last 20 days, everyday he would cut a link of the chain off, and then on the last day we had a weaning party, he cut the last link off, we ate cake and then had the last nursing, and then he was done!

This was like a week ago and he is really just done! He has asked a couple of times (my 7mo is still nursing so there is still lots of milk) but I just reminded him that we weaned, and he was like oh,ok and ran off to do something else.

I am so proud of nursing him for four years! And nursing through pregnancy and 7 months of tandem nursing! And I am so happy and relieved that it was so easy; it really makes me believe that he was ready too.

It does make me wistful for his babyhood, my baby is really growing up now...but I have another one to nurse for the next 4 or so years :LOL

I probably wouldn't have weaned him if I had't been tandeming, but nursing both kids was not working for me. we'll see how long the baby goes, I'm not planning any more so she will get to nurse as long as she wants!

So celebrate with me! I am happy and sad and proud all at once!

Congratulations on your baby boy growing up! What a huge milestone in his life. I hope that you're not too sad- that you can look back at the 4 years you had nursing him and really know that you did a wonderful thing and that your child and you will have this incredible bond because of it!

What a great mama you are!!! I'm proud of you for doing it so long!!!

hurrah for both of you...my dd weaned over a year ago and the other day her breath smelled like breast milk and I had instant memories of those moments we had when we would cuddle and nurse...her little eyes looking in mine while she ate and relished in the nourishment!
