My boy will take great naps during the day but as the day wears on, his sleep gets lighter and lighter. By the time it is time for him to go down for the night (between 9-30 and 10:30, we watch for signs) he struggles against it. For the last 3 nights, he gets super tired, yawns all the time, gets fussy and inconsolable and will not pass out until 11:30-12. During this entire time, either I or DH are rocking, bouncing, slinging, walking outside, singing, anything we can think of to help calm him down. We've tried to catch him before he gets too tired, but to no avail. We don't even try to put him down when he falls asleep (for a moment) and then he's back up again. He falls asleep for minutes and then is up for a total of 6-8 times before he finally sleeps for the night. Is it possible for a 7 week old to be fighting sleep this much already? Any suggestions?

Yes! He liked it at firt (3-5 weeks old) then fought us on it and wanted his hands free. He 's very strong and would cry and wiggle until he worked one or both arms out, no matter how tightly we swaddled! Then he'd be awake again...
