Ok, she went from pooping at least once a day for the first 3 1/2 months to not pooping unless she gets an oz or two of baby prune juice. The first time she went 5 days without a bm and I gave her juice and it worked, now if she hasn't gone in 3 days I give her juice on the 3rd day. She is ebf, four months old and still making lots of wet diapers daily.

I loathe juice, its something I don't plan on keeping around the house because of the empty calories, etc. Has her rhythm just changed? Should I just give her an oz a day till she is regular-ish? Should I call my ped?

Stop giving that baby juice. She needs absolutely nothing but breastmilk until at least 6 months.

Plenty of wet dipes is what tells you she's just fine. Many, many BF babies go days and days (Mine went 10 days, I think, once) without a poop. It's totally normal. As long as she doesn't seem to be in pain or straining, she's absolutely fine. Totally. Really.

Yeah! And enjoy it while it lasts! Now that my babe is eating more solid food, she poops more often and it stinks (in both ways).

My baby pooped maybe once a week or less for several months. Ah those days are long gone.

My friends baby starting pooping just once a week at 4 months - he is EBF. It is totally normal. My DD now just goes a few times a week, and a few times it has been up to 9 days. Like the above poster said, no need to worry unless your LO seems to be in pain and isn't having enough wet dipes no need to worry!

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, Mamas! I will stop with the juice and continue to keep an eye on the wet diapers. Keeping track of someone else's poops is a strange business. I always thought that moms were crazy about poop, now I'm the crazy lady!

my Aeden was probably about that age or a little older when he stopped pooping and went for 2 weeks without pooping.. we panicked a bit and went to the ped and she said it was completely normal. After that time the consistency changed of the poop and he started going every other day instead of every day or a couple of times a day.. so be happy you have less poop!! : )

Wanted to mention that it's a very common phenomenon around this age - the gut is starting to mature, and baby is growing so much, with more movement and using more calories. BM is very easily digested, maing it a near perfect food, and having very little waste. When baby is urinating, you know she's OK, and not pooping just means that she is very efficiently using all the nutrients in your BM, leaving very little waste product (poop).

Although, to be fair, whenever DD held it for days on end, the day she did manage to poop was 2-3 huge, heavy, stinking poosplosions. Just to warn you!

Stop the juice. There is absolutely no need. DS went a few weeks ago without pooping for 11 days. He went, he's fine, nothing to worry about. Not a second of discomfort. He will be 4 months on Dec. 6th.

Echoing the PPs, but it is not a problem, and so common with BF babies. My DS did the exact same thing starting at 3.5 months. I think his longest stretch was 8 days, but I have friends whose LOs went up to 11 days in between. No worries!!

yeah, just be prepared- the longer between poops, in my experience, the worse the poopsplosions. Knock-you-on-the-floor stinkin.

Mine started spacing his out at 3 months until it was once a week or less. He'll be 5 months next week, and has been on antibiotics for a month, which caused what is, I believe, diarrhea in him. He started going twice a day. He's been off the oral meds for a week, and every morning like clockwork, he wakes up in a poopy dipe. So funny- plenty of kids would WIG OUT at lying there in poo, but he sleeps right through it.

My little guy sometimes goes up to 5 days without a BM. Totally normal. Your baby will have a BM eventually, no juice required.

DD is still getting it worked out. She'll go several days without a poop and then DH will give her some banana with her EBM and she'll have two poops a day. We never know what we're going to get

Yes.... no juice needed! This is totally normal and part of the develpoment process. Unless other symptoms occur, do not worry!
