And they don't even know what's wrong with her, but it's bad enough that after bringing her in to see the doctor today, they ran a bunch of tests and called us back (and got my DH since I was still on the bus) to tell us to bring her down to the hospital because they're worried something might happen to her overnight. : I am so freakin' out!

My little one is going to be 2 in about a month. About a week ago, I noticed that she looked kinda yellow, including the whites of her eyes, but otherwise she wasn't acting sick. I decided to take her in to see the ped on Friday, he ordered some blood work, and told me to call back on Monday (today) to find out what's up.

I got woken up this morning to a message (I missed the call) saying they needed to see her today, so I called them back and went in at 1:30. I had to see this other Dr. who I decided I didn't like. First I told him we brought her down Friday because she looked yellow and kinda jaundiced, and that our normal Dr. ordered some blood work, including a hepatitis screen.

He said, "Oh, she's not "yellow" she's just keratinized!"

I said, "She hasn't had any foods with enough Beta Keratin to do that, and Dr. T ordered that blood work to check her liver function...."

Him: "Lets take a look at her. (Sees the whites of her eyes are yellow.)

Oh, her eyes are all yellow... it's probably hep A. Has she eaten food handled by anyone with hep A? Or eaten any unwashed greenery?"

Me: "No. She barely eats anything anymore except breastmilk. I have no idea where she could have come into contact with that unless you can pick it up off of dirty playground equipment... I'm pretty sure Dr. X had her tested for that last Friday."

Him: "Lets take a look at the test results. Hmm... See this (liver enzyme I don't remember the name of but have in the paperwork I don't feel like digging out) should be between 40-60, and it's in the 1200's. It's got to be hep A. She IS up to date on all her immunizations, isn't she?"

Me: "

No. We choose not to vaccinate."

Him: (Giving me that

look, like, "Oh, your one of those.") The plot thickens...

And he said it in that way that implies my DD wouldn't be sick right now if I'd just been a good little sheep and pumped her poor little body full of crap.

So, he says something about testing her for hepatitis, and leaves the room. Leaves us there for. ever.

Finally comes back into the room.

Him: "Well, it turns out Dr. T had her tested for hepatitis on Friday! (Shocked, as if I didn't tell him that

twice already.) And she's negative, so it's not hepatitis. I have to go consult with a gastroenterologist on this one. Be right back."

Leaves us to wait for another zillion years.

Finally, he sends us over to the lab for

more tests and tells me I need to get her in for an ultrasound on her abdomen, and I need to see this other gastroenterologist, Dr. W on Friday.

Then I had a hellish trip home on the bus. (Another story altogether, but it was a loooong trip with much walking.) And I get home and my DH is gone, but her scrawled "The Doctors called back. Simone needs to be hospitalized overnight!!!" on our message board. I had no idea where he was, and now I'm

thisclose to panic mode!

He got back about 20 minutes later, and is seems he kinda freaked out and started driving around

looking for us (because last he knew I was stranded without bus money, and we'd missed each other earlier). :

And that's where we're at right now. I have a huge migraine on top of all this, and it looks like I'm spending the night in the hospital. DH is freaking out and snapping at me for all the time it took just to write that all down, but I had to get that off my chest.

Wish us luck.

I hope the night passes quickly and restfully for you both (not easy in a hospital, I know!), and you get some answers first thing in the morning... please let us know when you have a chance.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I get migraines, too, and I don't know how I'd deal with having one on top of that. Remember that your DH is just as stressed as you and hence the snapping - see if you can remind him of it in a gentle way.
