My son is 8 and a half months old, stands over 30 inches tall and weighs about 23lbs. He wears the 18-24 month sizes. When we go out I see lots of other babies who are much smaller than he is,and who are obviously older (they walk, talk, and have teeth). My daughter was a normal sized baby, even a bit small,so all this is so weird to me. Sometimes he is scared easily because people tend to treat him like he is older, they are loud and expect him to be more social than he is. I guess the worst part is I am sort of embarrassed and afraid others think he is slow(developmentally) because he is the size of a two year old,but is only 8 months. I know that's so petty of me,and it's hard for me to admit this is happening. I just don't always know how to quiet that ridiculous inner voice that worries about what other people think. Any advice? Anybody else have BIG babies??

One of my almost 8-month-olds is a pretty big baby too. He is off the charts in height, probably around 30 inches at this point, and weighs over 20 lbs as well (don't have a scale, but he weighed 20 lbs at 6 months). My other baby (his twin) is average-sized. It is weird because no one ever thinks they are twins. Your baby must be bigger than mine, though, because mine still fits in 12-month sized clothes (for the most part), and people usually guess that he's one, not two. It is hard when kids are big for their age. . . I know that I've often thought children were acting much younger than their age, only to find out that they actually just looked really old for their age and were acting age appropriately. I don't know that I have any advice. . . other than maybe to tell people how old he is? Also, my big baby is a total barnicle baby (prefers to be stuck to me at all times), so he spends a lot of time in the sling/ergo. People tend to think he is more baby and less toddler when he's in there.

Good luck!

Will is about the same size as your DS, and he's just six months!

Yes, my back is killing me!

I haven't really had too many people express surprise at his actual age (that I've noticed, anyway). They're more surprised at his size (if that makes sense - they don't seem to think he's slow, they just think he's huge). I have had a couple people ask about his achievement of specific milestones (like teeth, crawling, etc) that he hasn't hit yet, and once I made them aware of his age, they were like "Well, of course he's not crawling yet. Duh me".

However, when we had his professional portraits done at 6 wks, the photog kept saying "Sit up, Will. Will, look over here! Sit up, Will". I finally had to say "He's only six weeks. He doesn't know his name, and there's no way he's going to sit up." She asked me if I was sure he was only six weeks. Ummmm, yes, I do know how old my son is!

Last week, at the store, I saw a little girl who was about Will's size. She was sitting up in the shopping cart and had lots of teeth. She was grinning at everyone and waving "hi". I thought to myself, omg Will's waaay behind her! Then I asked her mom how old she was - 14 months! Yeah, Will's waaay behind her for a reason - she's eight months older! And I *knew* that a baby Will's size is usually going to be older than Will, but when I saw that little girl, I just spaced on that knowledge. I just assumed she was Will's age, b/c he's who I deal w/everyday. I was operating in the mindset that he's the norm, but really he's just giant.

I am not "over-weight" and neither is my partner. I'm 5'10" and my partner is 6'1". I see that as why we have a "big" baby. She's very healthy and not "fat". Haeven was 8. 7 lbs when she was born. She's been totally breastfed. My baby was 22 lbs at 6 months and was 25 lbs at 9 months. She seems to be gaining a pound per month now, but up till 6 months was gaining 2 pounds per month. I'm so proud
of my big grrl. She does have no hair though and an average size head, so otherwise, I think she could have been a monster-sized baby. Every one thinks she's a boy.

She wears size 2 years for almost everything. I'm going to weigh her today so I'll see what she weighs for 10 months.

I'm also in the big baby boat... DS is 4 months old, 18 pounds, and ...drumroll please..... 26 1/2 inches!!!! In other words, suuuuper long and lean. My big stringbean. He is quite social, so people do treat him like an older baby. The other day at the library, I let him do some tummy time on the kids' floor mat, and I ahd a woman come up and console me about the fact that he was trying so hard, but couldn't crawl. She said "Don't worry, mine didn't crawl until 10 months." When I told her DS was just 4 month a few days ago, she just about fell over.

I love his big-ness-- except for my back. Sometimes I wish he would slow down length-wise and let his "width" catch up, but I think long and lean is just his body type. I'm not so worried about other people's expectations of him now-- good grief, he's just a babe-- but if the trend continues, I worry when he's older about him being "pushed" b/c of his size.

My 9 month old wears a 3T. He was 32 inches long the last time I measured him (about 2 months ago, and he was wearing a 2T at the time, so he must be taller than that now), and he weighs around 25 pounds. He's actually hard to shop for because the length of his legs fits about an 18 month size, but his torso is extremely long, and he has a big tummy (and a huge cloth diaper bottom).

My sister actually told me the other day that if I were someone she was just making casual conversation with at the mall, she'd think I was wrong about DS's age. I don't blame anyone who does. He does look older, but he acts like a young baby.

My 10 mo ds weighs about 27lbs and is into the 18 months clothes. I'm actually rather proud of his size since he's still exclusively bfed. I always pipe up with this info when someone asks
. He's so solid and rooted plus there's more of him to

woohoo for big babies!! My 10 month old is 25 pounds and wears a 2T and occaisionally a 3T. It is weird because my other ones were normal and I forget how young she still is sometimes. Perhaps it is just because I am pinning away for the day she can walk because she doesn't give me any help as I lug her around. She could easily pass for a child of 18 months. Oh well. Noone has ever assumed she was slow. They have asked what I am cooking up in my milk though :LOL

Another member of the big baby/kid club. Dd was a big baby and is still around the 80th percentile for girls. Ds is bigger. He was 26 inches and over 15lbs at his 2 month check up. He has his 4 month appointment next week and I am curious to see if he how much he has grown.

I am thankful to have a strong back.

Am I too late to join the club? Both my boys are off the charts or 99th percentile as the doctors put it. Avery is 3 months old, weighs 21 pounds or so, I can't remember his length, but it's proportional to his weight. People offer him food all the time, and we had a waitress bring him a spoon and a kids menu. Jarod is 45 pounds and stands to my waist at 3 years old (I'm 5'8", BTW), and he's rock solid, built like a line backer. We were at the hospital today, and Avery was nursing in the sling, 2 nurses aids stopped to admire my healthy breastfed baby, and did a double take when I told them how old he was. They had to feel the sling to be sure he really was that big. As they walked away, one said to the other, "they don't lie about that breastmilk." In fact, while visiting my sister and her new baby, her nurse had to go get the LC to see Avery because she was so amazed by him. I remember taking Jarod places at 3 or 4 months old and having people ask me if he was walking yet....
Umm, no, he's just 4 months old.... They take it honestly, the men in my family are all well over 6 feet tall. My brother is the "runt" at 6'1". I have never seen a baby as big as Avery, though.

My son just turned 2 on 9-5 and he weighs....

49 lbs!! He's around 38" tall.

He's been big since birth..at 7 mos. he was 27 lbs.

Yeah... I love big babies! People do tend to think he's older than he is. When ds was 8 mos. old he had to go to the ER and the nurse kept asking him to say his name. I had to tell her that he's only 8 mos. old. She thought he was 2 years, lol!

My son wears size 4T and 5T clothes and a size 9 shoe.

I love big babies!!!
My first ds was in size 2T when he was 6 months old. I loved it! My uncle suggested I donate my breastmilk to science. My aunt said I must be making pure cream, not milk! So funny, my round babies are also EXTREMELY white, which makes them look even fatter for some reason! DS #2 is only 3 months, but already following in his big brothers footsteps.

My, but its good to hear other moms talk about their big babies. Mine too. He is 8 1/2 months and I'd guess close to 23 lbs. Certainly over 22 lbs. The thing that always makes me cringe a little is that he is not super tall. Just 27 inches plus a little. However, he is rock solid and doing great and I'm getting used to seeing him next to other kids his age and looking twice the size. He also has a lot of hair which makes people think he is older (or that he is a girl). He never nurses for long periods of time, causing my mother to remark that I must be producing nothing but cream.

My cousins baby is very tall and coordinated for his age(18 months) so it was startling when this 3yr-old looking baby would run up to you and say "Baa!". She said it took some effort even for her to remember that he was still a baby and in need of all the cuddling and kisses that are so easy to bestow on the younger ones.

Here is to all our monster babies. :->

Add me too to the BIG BABY CLUB
.
DS was 40 lbs and 38 inches tall at his 2 year old check up. He has always been a big baby. Both DH and I are "bigger" than average, and come from a long line of Big people. My grandfather was 6 ft and 200 lbs in eight grade, and only got bigger.
It is hard when you forget that even though your kid is huge, developementally they are only 2months, or 1 year or what ever. Just be proud that you gave birth to a child that your body grew and is able to nourish! Congrats!

My sweetheart baby Jakob was 7lbs, 6oz 20 inches at birth. At 6 months, he was 28.5 inches long and weighed 23lbs! He is 8 months old now and I haven't weighed or measured him lately but I imagine he is at least 25lbs by now and maybe 29.5 to 30 inches long! 18 month clothing barely fit him...so he mostly is wearing size 24 months at the moment!
Well, I am 5'10" and my husband is 6'1", so it's not surprising to me that he is a big boy. I babysit a little girl who is 16 months old...he is maybe a quarter inch shorter than she is!

Well, so far it still seems that my neighbour's baby is the biggest. I don't know his weight now but at 9.5 months he was exactly 30 pounds. His parents are of Japanese Background are are pretty petite. They claim that their baby is completely healthy and they have nothing to worry about in terms of his weight because pediatrician said he is fine. Don't know, don't know.
