Oh dear..it seems that my breast has become DD's comfort object. While this has been the case for a while that I will be able to nurse her to calm her down or whatever, but now she has decided that it is her comfort object.

She sleeps for the first part of the night in her own bed (crib) and I usually nurse/snuggle her to sleep. Lately she has been stiring when I go to put her down and reaching for my breast. I'm thinking that maybe I should be introducing some other sort of lovey so that if I am not around she will be able to have similar comfort?

What is the recommendation for that? Help...I can't leave my boob with her all the time!

Oh boy... join the club! My breast (and now any loving and obliging family member's) has been DS's lovey for a number of months now. He is 18 mo and still nursing a few times a day. At any time, no matter who is holding him, you'll see his thumb in his mouth and his other hand steathily slid down their shirt, fondling their breast (husbands and grandpas too!!)

I have tried for months to get him to attach to a lovey, ANY lovey, besides the boob. it just hasn't worked. I don't know if it will change when we are done BF, or what.

So, I guess i don't have much advice, though a lot of empathy!!

I sometimes joke that my breasts are DD's favorite teddy bears. She likes to nurse to sleep fairly often while holding my breast. Sometimes she just wants to hold a breast. She's almost 4 yrs old now.

She's never really found a lovey, but sometimes she'll go to sleep with a doll or a stuffed animal or a book. She's very tactile, so I think she just likes holding something.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will maybe make a small minky blanket or something for her to snuggle. She is also a very tactile child so the softness might work. Though I think my boobs will always be her favorite.

I'm kind of in the same boat too. My DD sleeps well at night, but there is always that point in the evening where she wakes up. During that time, she will only sleep if she is attached to my boob. I'll sometimes transfer her from our bed into her crib, but she usually wakes up and just wants to be snuggled with me. Sooo, for the time being, I'm just following her lead. I'm thinking within time she'll just feel less dependent on me and will develop an attachment to some sort of lovely. That's the hope anyway...

I think it's really good for them when they become attached to people instead of things. It's the logistics that are so hard!

Lauren does this too. Sometimes. Especially at night, she likes to feel that they are there. At ~21 months, though, she started to spontaneously form attachments to "babies" and teddies. I'd encouraged her before, to no avail. So it might just be a matter of time.

My ds has decided that the boobs are his comfort objects too. I really don't mind. Ds1 and I walk the dog together and ds2 will stay with dh and I have come home to ds2 cuddling with my bra:
I guess he thought that was close enough and it did smell like me since it came out of the hamper
