My daughter is 7 weeks old and loves nursing. Over the last couple of weeks, she will nurse, and then just "hang out" at my boob...sucking/sleeping/licking/smiling...for an hour or longer.

She has also recently started sucking so much and for so long...that I just wanted to find out if it's normal! She will get so excited and will almost 'attack' my boob when I offer it to her and then she will suck really hard and fast for quite a long time. She gets angry if I take her away, even after 20 minutes or so...and if I do, she'll put her hand in her mouth and suck. My nipples pretty much go numb from her sucking so much and so hard.

I guess she just has a very strong urge to suck? It can't be a milk problem...cuz I have lots and lots of milk. She has also been pooping green poop off and on.

Anyone else have babes that do this? Thanks!

Edited to add: Don't get me wrong...I LOVE how she does this...cuz I love being a SAHM and having nothing else to do but cuddle and love my babe while nursing! I just wanted to see if anyone else's babe does it too

aww thats really cute. ds seemed to nurse all the time at that age. i mean, i could barely go take a shower! he's still more attached to the boob than most babes his age, but it has gotten better. i can sometimes nurse before taking him the grocery store and make it til we get back. also they are more efficient around 3 months. he only nurses for 5 mins at a time now. i say enjoy the extra cuddles for now.

i say nurse on demand and the green poop will fix itself. it's weird..he had some green poop for a while then one day he nursed four hours straight. i finally stopped b/c i had to potty. that ended the green poop.

my son (3 1/2 months) used to nurse for 5-10 minutes at a time, every 40 minutes or so, but lately he's nursing 20-30 minutes almost ALL DAY! I love it, though. He sleeps through the night, though, so he's probably making up during the day for what he used to get at night. I'm worried too, actually, he's was 17 lbs BEFORE he started nursing for 20-30 minutes (EACH breast) oh my...

but I think it's absolutely normal! My ped. actually said the more (weight) the better when nursing! (I don't know if this it really true, though, since my son has been off the weight charts since he was 9 weeks) so I'd just let him go for how long he wants!

good luck!

My DD was also very much a boob a holic

She did almost the exact same thing. I ended up having to get a paci, because after a while, I was just plain RAW. My ped assured me she was just a very oral baby and there was nothing wrong with it. She outgrew the need for a paci by age 5 months and now just uses mama for a paci when it's bed/nap time.

Congrats on your babe!!! I miss mine being so small

My DD is a boob-a-holic too!

She is 9mo old and still 99.9% bf. She nurses at least once an hour during the day and several times at night too.

I think its perfectly normal and as long as its not a problem for you then its not a problem! KWIM

Cuddle, nurse and enjoy your daughter while she is small. Too soon she will be a big 19lb girl, crawling and climbing everywhere like my DD.

Sara, just wanted to say that the green poop could be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance... I don't know a ton about that, but just thought I'd drop that idea in here so you could look into it if she gets gassy and uncomfy... Fairly easy fix, from what I've read, to keep babe on one breast for a block of hours and then switch. Anywho, yup nursing all hours totally normal! The hoover suck, I don't know :LOL Ds always had a nice perfect suck, I was lucky with that!

Totally normal IMO. My daughter oh my goodness, she nursed SO much! She literally did not have ANY time between nursings for 8 weeks. She was on the breast every waking moment. She was 3 months before I had a half hour break between nursings. She still has yet to go two hours between nursing except at night (she just started sleeping through the night sometimes). She is almost 19 months. Not trying to scare you, I really don't mind, someone else may choose to limit nursings. I personally believe in nursing on demand and total self-weaning including at night so here we are. She LOVES nursing a lot more than other toddlers it seems. She just dives right on as if she has found heaven.

these babies are lucky to have mamas like you who will nurse them on demand!

I concur, totally normal. On afternoons like this, when my 4.5 month old wants to jump the exersaucer to shreds, I miss the days when he'd cuddle up peacefully for hours. I could use some couch time!

The green poop -- are you taking any kind of iron supplement? Prenatal vitamins? We had green poop for a long while and when I stopped the prenatal the green poop stopped too. Then when I fed him EBM that I pumped back when I was still taking it, the green poop came back.
