We brought our son to the hospital for an MRI and neurologist appt today for rapid eye rolling. They asked about his vax, why delayed, and spec the pneumococcal vax. Apparently, there's some folks who try to find a correlation btw eye tics and the strep?? bacteria. The first dr was scary (GUILT) but the 2nd basically just dismissed it & shook his head.

:
I don't regret our decisions but man oh man when you're in there and scared to death you're almost ready to do ANYTHING at all.

Luckily, the neurologist was calm and peaceful and mellow and helped us decide against the MRI. But OMG I just wished I could have had a laptop and a MDC connection.

Well there are about 90 serotypes and Prevnar is only for 7 of them, so even if serotype replacement wasn't a huge problem (it is) that vaccine wouldn't guarantee prevention anyway.

But my God, it just makes you feel so panicked and desperate. But, either I did sound decisive or they were respectful b/c they didn't try to lecture me.

Yeah, it's bizarre. I posted in health. The neur. thinks it's a new manifestation of a nervous habit and will resolve itself. The ped thought it could be a viral swelling on the brain and we all panicked and ran.

I'm 100% hospital phobic and can't even imagine having my 5 y.o. stuck w/an IV, sedated and then MRI'd. I think that made everything more surreal for me--trying to be positive, wondering if the pneumococcal could've saved his life, etc etc etc.

Thanks for asking--what a horrible day
