Not Ramone Arnold was my kitty when I still lived with my parents, he was the first cat I had that really attached to me - and he was mine, wouldn't cuddle with anyone else until over a year after I moved out. He had kidney failure, and my parents had to put him to sleep. I had a good cry, and Ramone is being cuddly, but I'm sad.

oh, honey, I am so sorry but glad it wasn't Ramone! (I had a mini heart attack when I saw the name of the thread)

We've lost 2 cats in the last 4 years and the kittens who we got right before each one made the passing a little easier. It felt a little like everytime we got a kitten, we lost a cat but I'm starting to think that we actually got a kitten to ease the loss of the cats that we didn't realize we'd lose.

Oh SSM, I'm so sorry. I have only lost two cats in my entire life and both times, it was so so hard...what's worse, my old cat Lily, which I bought while my grandmother was dying 17 years ago, has begun bleeding from her rectum. I think she's near the end. :(

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling better about it today - he was old and it was time to let go. I have great memories of him as a kitten doing stupid stuff (like locking himself in the bathroom! Don't ask...), and him launching himself at me when we played together - I think he thought I was his giant kitty toy.

I'll miss him, but I'm glad he's not suffering anymore.

And HAM - I'm so sorry your kitty isn't doing well!! I hope she gets better, but if not

I remember when my first cat died. I had had him since I was in second grade and he died in my early 20's. He lived crazy long, especially as he was sort of half feral being an outside on the farm cat. He'd bring us all sort of dead wild animals he killed, all proud and such.

Glad you have Ramone to snuggle with. :)

SSMama, *hugs* Losing a pet you've had for so long is hard. My parents had to put down our old dog a few weeks ago and it was so sad. Glad you're feeling better about it now.

Oh, no! I am so sad for you and your kitty. I wonder if this is a factor in your 3yo's behavior this week? It's so hard, for everyone in the family, to lose a pet.

No, Lincoln didn't know Arnold. Arnold lived with my parents, who are 3,000 miles away. They met once, while Lincoln was holding and waving a whirligig at Arnold, who was scared out of his mind in the bathroom (he was very very shy - like anxiety disorder shy, and anxiety might have had something to do with him not living longer).
