Lately, when we go out - both to eat, and to the grocery store - we've been getting a few comments about food for ds, probably because, if you just look at him (especially if I've got him in the sling), he looks older than 3 months. Dd has taken it upon herself to inform people, "Jacob doesn't get food, he's still too little. He just has Mommy," followed up with a flourish, pointing at my chest. :LOL One woman in the grocery store acted all embarassed and seemed to think I should be too, but generally people just smile, a little shocked.

She also asked dh's cousin's wife over the weekend, what was in her baby's bottle and why she needed that! My own thought was good question... but I know dh's cousin's wife was told there was 'no way' she could make enough milk for her 'big baby' (9 lb+ at birth). *sigh*

good for her! and you!

my little (almost 5 year old) nephew always likes to look at my dd while she's nursing - this weekend he asked me "how does she eat?" and I explained that when a mommy has a baby her body makes milk, etc etc, and after I explained it all in a very pro-bf, non-embarased way, so as to make bf seem the norm, he said, "oh but I thought babies eat baby applesauce with a spoon?" :LOL

My DS is also big for his age. He's 5 months and looks about 7 or 8 at least. We get food comments too (in fact, that's what people zero in on). My favorite-"Man, he must be eating EVERYTHING he can get his hands on!" "No, actually, he doesn't get baby food yet, he's exclusively breastfed." Thay can't seem to wrap their minds around that concept.

When DS cut his two bottom teeth, the cashier at the grocery store (we're regulars and she knows us well) said, "I bet he doesn't want that baby food in the bag anymore. He probably wants steak now."

There wasn't any baby food in our cart and there never has been any baby food in our cart. :LOL

I wish I had a little lactivist to set people straight.
It gets tiring after awhile. "Yes, he's big for his age." "No, he doesn't ever get a bottle." "No, he doesn't eat baby food." "Yes, it's fine that he doesn't eat baby food. He's not gonna starve. In case you didn't notice, he's 22 lbs."

WTG Gillian!

At the hospital after youngest dd was born my 2 1/2 year old was walking down the hall with my mom and I. A baby was crying and my mom says to her "That baby wants a bottle" Maia replies "NO Mimi, that baby wants some Milkies!" (my mom completely supports me bfing and had no problem with me nursing Maia til age 2, just made a stupid comment)

I also have a little lactivist on my hands
Ds #1 makes sure people know that "when a baby cries he needs his mamas milk". He also likes to tell people that Ds #2 "needs mama milk to get BIG muscles" :LOL Isn't that the truth!
