I went to see my midwife today and among many things we talked about was ultra sounds. She said it is perfectly fine if I do not want one, she did not get one with her twins even. She will however tell me to get one if I do not up my protien everyday as I have been getting almost nothing. So I have to keep a food log for the next 2 weeks and do see her again. LOL I think she using the ultra sound thing as levrage to get me to eat better. LOL

Got to hear heart beat and it was in the 140's and all seems good but my eating. Oh and I finally gained something, 5lbs in the last two weeks!

It looks like I might not be getting an ultra sound and some how that makes me happy even though I was thinking I wanted to know if baby was boy or girl to help me bond better. Thats not so much an issue now as I talk to baby at night and that has helped sooooo soooo much! Thanks for the advice mamas!

Blessings,
Kimmy

I don't really understand why you would need an ultrasound if you don't up your protein, other than the fact that she is probably just using it as leverage. Doesn't really make sense to me. So, I guess if you really *want* an ultrasound subconsciously, you'll probably not be real good about keeping the food log.
I know I haven't been real great about the protein either. Good luck with that!

Oh I am SO glad to hear you're bonding with baby!!!

I've also been in decision mode since your last post about the ultrasound. I am 99% sure I won't have one... unless there's a REASON, I just haven't wanted one for this baby.

Funny side story:
I was telling my mother today about cloth diapers and delayed vaccinations and I could hear the pauses, though she seemed to "uh huh" in all the right places. Wait until I tell her no ultrasound. She's going to fall over. You know, since according to her I am bound to have Gestational Diabetes, Toxemia and a dead baby from homebirth.

Alisha, I think you are right, the midwife is picking on me a silly way about it. Do this or else! LOL And your also right, if for some reason I want that ultrasound chances are I will mess up my diet. For the moment, a friend ran to the store tonight just to get me white cake and watermellon so I am going to eat it and love it! LOL Tomorrow morning I will worry about eggs..... LOL

Gina, thanks for telling me I might want to try talking to baby. It really has helped. I feel like with my whole world seemingly out of control at times, that I should relax and this one thing trust, trust this baby will be well and the birth will go as it should. An ultra sound just seems like it will get in the way.

I do not plan on telling many people that I am not getting an ultra sound this time. They ask what baby is already and I just say hubby wants to wait till the baby is born. How is going to argue with that seeing he is in Iraq right? LOL

As for your mother..... Do you get off on shocking her? LOL I know I do with my mom honestly. LOL I hope that she finds understanding and trust in you. Then what will you bug her about? LOL My mother is still not ok with homeschooling and DD is almost 8! LOL You can be sure I tell her all about it! LOL

As for local support, I have one friend I can count on right now and it feels like enough. I hope it is!

We're not doing an ultrasound either unless we have reason to believe that something may be wrong. It's going to be a different experience for us.

I'm only 16 weeks, 4 days...but we're already getting those calls: "When's your ultrasound? Are you going to find out if it's a boy or a girl?"

It's like a standard rite of passage now...though even the ACOG says u/s should not be used routinely. People are really weirded out that we're not having one.

I do enjoy living vicariously through the other mamas who are having them, though!

Good luck with your diet log. I got the protein talk this week, as well. I've been trying to shovel down 3 eggs each morning instead of 2.
