My mom is a nanny to an EXTREMELY mainsteam family... She started watching their 3 and 5 yo old DDs when the mom was in the third trimester... They are a very nice family, but just imagine every non-AP thing that a fmily could practice and that's them.
Anyway, when the mom was pregnant, my mom asked her if she was going to BF. She answered, "No, I nursed my other two DDs for 6 months, it was too hard. I'm done with that, I don't want to be stuck home with the girls. This baby is going to be a Similac baby."
My mom is not the type to preach, but she offered my email address and told her that I could talk with her when I came up to visit and find her support. The woman declined and my mom dropped it. (Inserting here, my mom is pretty non-judgmental person... she nursed me for, like, two weeks in the 70s butwas told she didn't have enough milk
It broke her heart and she was so glad that I was able to nurse my DD and **** going.)
Anyway, so the baby is born, via scheduled C-sect and FF from the get-go(my mom bought her a Boppy as a shower gift :LOL in case she changed her mind about bfing!) and my mom visits a few weeks later to meet the baby and the mom is out of her mind. She hasn't been able to go anywhere, the baby cries all the time and she just found out that the baby has severe reflux. My mom tells her about my experience with my DD.
A few days later my mom calls me for advice for this woman, changing formulas isn't helping and neither are the meds... so I send her this long email about the natural alternatives out there and sent her some info on re-lactating, thinking she would just throw it away...
BUT SHE DIDN'T!!!! She is trying to relactate to help her babe!!!! I am so excited
I can't believe it. It made me feel bad that I just written this woman off... I am soooooo glad that we practiced gentle advocacy b/c now a baby who otherwise wouldn't have had the benefit of BM might get it!!!
