My niece is nearly a year old. She has her top and bottom front teeth and has started getting in a new batch. The problem is that she's been soothing her little gums by chewing on mama. As in she takes a big chomp of mama's nipple and starts pulling on it!
My SIL has tried distracting her with something else to chew on when her dd breaks the latch (dd just cries and dives for the breast again), she's tried watching to see if she can tell when her dd goes from nursing to about to chew (she can't tell a difference, but thinks that might be because she isn't concentrating properly since she's scared of the pain). The only thing that works is unlatching her immediately and not letting her nurse for awhile after she bites, but that still leaves my SIL getting chomped.
So, ideas?
Things that worked to distract your little ones when they started being a bit distracted from nursing? See, her dd clearly acts like she's wanting to play or something shortly before she goes into vampire baby mode, but doesn't actually chomp until she's been nursing again for awhile, only it's random.
Ways to soothe chomped nipples? The worst part, SIL says, is that her dd prefers one breast and wants to nurse on that side, and bite that side all the time.
Ways to help a teething baby so she doesn't need to chew on mama?
TIA!
