I am 17 weeks pg and the headaches are a daily occurrence! I have resorted to some tylenol and caffeine on the really bad days (meaning I am nauseous and can't move my head) but I can't figure out what is triggering them and how to deal with them in a more natural way. I am hydrated, not terribly stressed, seeing the chiro regularly and want the headaches to stop, they are debilitating. Anyone else with this, or have any solutions.

Thanks
Warmly,
Erin

I always recommend acupuncture for headaches. I used to have severe migraines and acupuncture fixed that for me. I'm not a big fan of needles, but anything is better than a headache! Give it a few sessions at least

ilovejeff: Thanks, I used accupuncture for my m/s I didn't even think to try it for this, I will look into it!

runnerduck: My blood pressure is consistently 110/70 and throughout all of my pregnancies it has been this number approximately.

I am prone to migraines outside of pg so maybe it is something I have to deal with. My m/w wasn't terribly helpful with this problem (she is wonderful otherwise), I don't think she condones the use of tylenol and I take it because my previous midwives have told me it doesn't cross the placenta but I still feel guilty taking it but right now it is the ONLY thing that will bring me relief. I am hoping there are some other supplements I can take that will help. I am slightly low in B12 so I am trying to correct that but all of my other bloodwork came back fine <sigh>

Thanks for the help ladies.

Warmly
Erin

At the same stage as you, I also had daily (and all night) sinus headaches with nausea. I finally started having a Coke + tylenol in the mornings and it really really helped. I know it's not ideal, but I was so miserable. Within a few days, the headaches lessened. I was about to try acupuncture, but didn't. Other friends of mine have reported finding relief from Coke + tylenol for headaches or nausea even when not pregnant, I was surprised to hear.
Good luck,
Lauren

I think it's just hormonal. It's one of the signs I have that let's me know I'm pregnant a daily headache. I know with my first they eventually went away but I don't recall how far along I was. Acupuncture seems like a good choice.

When I was pregnant with my dd, I also got very frequent headaches at about the same time. I too treated them with Tylenol as a last resort. My midwife told me it was hormonal. My BP and everything else was fine too. They passed around 5 months.

my frst thoughts:

blood sugar
blood pressure
anemic

all things that ar the top causes of pregnancy migraines. (and all generally easy to treat!)

Me too! It's really awful. I thought for a while it was these Vitamin H2O's I was drinking, the ones with Stevia in them, because maybe my body wasn't used to the fake sugar. But I stayed off them for a few days and still got the headaches. My bp is fine, although I could stand to drink more water, and I also get adjusted regularly.

I also used to be prone to migraines but they stopped when I started getting adjusted a few years ago. My mom just mentioned that she had really excruciating headaches when she was pg with me. Maybe it's just hereditary? They do seem more of the hormonal variety; they affect me similarly to the ones I used to get around my cycle. Well, good luck to us both!

Hi,

I'm so sorry you're having all those headaches! I know exactly how you feel. I've always been prone to headaches, including occasional migraines, since I was a teenager. When I first got pregnant, I dreaded going 9 months without any drugs for them, but thankfully I didn't have nearly as many headaches that whole pregnancy and tylenol worked for those I had (it never worked when I wasn't pregnant). Second pregnancy...same thing.

But this pregnancy was a different story. Daily headaches made me miserable the first couple of months and tylenol didn't touch them. Then I read somewhere that magnesium supplements could help so I tried a sample of a product my husband brought home from his chiropractor...instant relief!! My headache disappeared overnight and I have not had one headache since I started taking it ~6 months ago, except for one day when I skipped the mag. the night before, thinking "I probably don't have to take it EVERY day..."

Anyway, the stuff I take is called Natural Calm, and I take about 1 tsp. per night before bed. It has been absolutely wonderful for me; it also helped me sleep alot better, but I would keep taking it just for the headache prevention benefit alone.

Good luck, mama! It sucks to have to deal with headaches when you're pregnant.

I'm 16 weeks and just started experiencing headaches. They're sort of in the front and not awful but pretty annoying. And I never get headaches. I had them at the end of my last pregnancy too, but not until like 39 weeks.

My blood pressure is really low 80s/60s and I eat small meals constantly so it shouldn't be blood sugar. Maybe anemia - that's something I'll have to look into. Also, make sure you're drinking enough water. I definitely get headaches when I'm dehydrated.

So sorry you're experiencing this too
