I was disappointed to find that when I cut up, baked, and pureed my pumpkin today, it wasn't that deep October-orange, but more like a orange-juice orange. More yellow than orange, KWIM? I went ahead and finished it anyway, but now I'm wondering.

Is this normal? Did I buy the wrong 'breed' of pumpkin? It seemed to taste pretty good, but I don't want to use it if it's, I dunno, not edible or something.

It's edible. It's just a different breed.

You can mix it with butternut or mashed sweet potato to get a deeper color. Or just use brown sugar with it, that'll do it too.
