I've said it in a few other posts but I'm taking the cd plunge.

Before I go and buy...any hints for a petite one? Ds is 18 months old, 29.5 inches tall and 23 pounds. Plus he is very very very active (he never sits still!!)

I'm going to start with prefolds and covers...

See the other thread on trim fitting dipes.

You might also look into Sugar Peas -- my son wore size 1 until just before his 2nd birthday-- if your son is like mine and has a slim waist and very little behind, these might be an excellent option for you-- especially since you are about to have a new little one (they should fit a newborn after a month or two). They are beautifully made dipes and she is stocking regularly.

My boys were petite too. super skinny legs. I was taught how to do a really good fold job with prefolds from a friend, and used prefolds for the first year of cding. That is all I used. I had a lot of trouble with diaper covers that had gussets. like the prowraps mostly. I don't know if it was because they were an older style or what. My boys leaked with gussets. I never had leaks with prefolds and pull on style covers. i Bet you'd have some good luck with those p folds that RB has. If my boys weren't potty training, I'd try them. What would be perfect is some prefolds with just elastic put in the legs, and you could just wrap it on and use a snappi, and never have a leak!!!
