I just read the thread "My BIG baby" and literally could not believe how BIG some babies can be!!! A couple of moms even said that at 2-3 years of age their babies weight around 50 pounds! That's, exactly what my own weight was at 9 years of age. Anyway, just wanted to start the opposite thread and see how tiny can healthy babies really be.

At 9 months check up my dd was just over 16 pounds and was 27 inches tall. Oh, and she does not look skinny at all...just the right size!

I never thought my dd was that small but we seem surrounded by babies who are at the 90th % or off the charts. At 6 mo, she was 14lb 4oz and 25 1/2 inches. Her weight has been steady on the 25% and her height around the 50%. She's due for her 9 mo checkup soon and I have no idea about her weight gain. I stopped checking it but I'm a bit nervous she'll drop off that 25% for weight.

With my first, he weighed 5 lbs 14 oz. and was 18 1/2 inches at birth and at 1 year, he weighed 18-19 lbs. With my dd, who will be 6 mo. next friday, I think she weighs about 14 lbs. right now. But ds was always in the 25% percentile and at 7 yo, he is still petite. But, I'm only 5'0, so that explains my petite babies!

Warmly~

My gal was 8 lbs 11 oz at birth, but by one year, only weighed 18 lbs, and was about 30 inches tall (she'll be a shortie, that's for sure!). Now, at 2 years 6 months, she weighs about 23 lbs, she's at the 1st percentile for height and weight. ds, who is 4 years, is at the 5th percentile for height, but he's stocky and weighs about 33 lbs. Little guys, mine are!

my kids start out average to big but are very slow growers

dd1 was 7'10 and 19.5 in at birth, 17 lbs and 28 in at one year, and 23 lbs 32.5 in at 2 yrs.

dd2 was 9'4 and 21 in at birth and at 6 mo she was 13 lbs 25 in. so far she's following in her big sisters footsteps
.

it's nice, they don't outgrow their clothes quickly at all

My 11-month old ds looks so skinny compared to other babies his age. He is at the 25th percentile for weight but the 90th for height (and has been all along). It's hard to find clothes and diapers that suit his small frame. I'm of average height and weight, but my dh is 6' and only 155lbs.

DD started out in the 15% or so and now at 2 yr. 6 mo. she is just below the scale at 22 pounds. She's always been little but perfectly healthy. She's only had a few colds and that's it. Like danaalex mentioned, it's nice because she doesn't grow out of her clothes. She's still wearing an 18mo. size!

My little pumpkin was 6 13 at birth and will be one Oct 28th. she isn't quite 20 pounds yet and can still wear 6-9 month clothes. I am not even 5 foot and my husband is just under 6 so we didn't figure we'd get a basketball star.

my girl too
exactly like that...
but she started out at 9 pounds! (was a long baby too, though and lost quite a bit more than 10% of her birth weight afterwards...but was always perfectly healthy)

I have a tiny baby too! Dd is 10.5 m/o and somewhere around almost 17# and 29". She is long and lean, (and you can see pics if you click her name in my sig line) and she is very healthy. We don't go to well baby visits, she hasn't been to see a doc in over 8 months, but there is no doubt she is a healthy babe. I am so *sick* of ppl judging babies health or aptitude by their size! Dd started out 7'12" 21" and was off the charts for the first few months. Now she is my skinny minnie.

She has been exclusively cloth diapered since birth. We have found that prefolds work very well, as do many different fitteds. I have now in rotation, hemp PFs, cotton PFs, freshies, cuddlebuns, righteous baby, liz's cloth, mother ease, honeyboy, fuzzi bunz... mmm... I know there are more... I also use Nikkys polyester covers which have gussets, which helps a lot.

I think the key for moms of skinny legged babies is side snapping dipes, since the legs and waist are adjusted seperately. HTH

Hey mamabike -- I cloth diaper my long and skinny baby -- it's the only way I can get her jeans to stay on her!!!

We use chinese prefolds and Bummis Super Whisper Wrap covers. . . they work just fine. My gal is 29" and 16 pounds at 11 months.

Thanks for the cloth diapering tips. I've never been "brave" enough to try prefolds. I've been thinking of trying honeyboy or fuzzibunz though. My ds had his 12 month check-up today. He weighed in at 19.5 lbs and measured 31". Tall and skinny! I've heard that babies lean out during their second year. I can't imagine my little guy being any slimmer.
