Before DD was born, I bought some UBCPF's. I washed them, used them, all seemed fine, heard people talk about how soft UBCPF's are, thought they were on crack.

This week, I bought 1/2 doz UBCPF's and 8 hand dyed UBCPF's. They are amazingly soft and cushy! Is that what people are talking about? And what is wrong with my old UBCPF's? They look EXACTLY the same, they've been washed way more than the new ones (about every other day for 1.5 months), they were both just described as UBCPF's on the website, and I paid about the same for them.

I feel so mad that I bought so many rough ones! So different diaper sites have totally different UBCPF's even though they appear the same? I feel sort of ripped off. Anybody else run into this? Maybe the rough ones will last longer? Arghhh!

maybe the old ones are european rather than chinese- the european are rougher, but do last longer (but who really cares LOL).
The softness does vary, I think it is more of a batch by batch thing though-since all true chinese prefolds come from the same place-the variation is in the fabric that they are using at any particular time. At one point, they had some that were BUTTER soft-but, sadly they aren't going to make any more of those as they were difficult to sew/handle.
If you really want soft-try the real indian prefolds-they are TONS softer IMO.

Its funny, I always hear people say IPF are the softest. But my IPF were not anywhere near as soft as my CPF. Maybe I didn't wait long enough to break them in but I did like 10 washes, boiled them several times, etc. etc.

The first 2 dozen CPF I got were from a local diaper service and they were both noticably softer and smaller than the other premium CPF I have bought since then. I have had the same thing happen with the different sizes with the two sets of regular CPF I have bought.

I don't get it either
