in my opinion Barre is scary - not literally but Burlington is a much more open minded place to live. There is WAY more to do with a toddler in Burlington. I live here with my 2 1/2 year old. The winters are COLD - being right on the lake. I have friends who moved here from Boston and NYC and they thought it was a lot colder here than those two cities. I am sure Barre is less expensive to live than Burlington is which might be a consideration. If you are looking to still live near Barre - I would choose Montpelier over Barre.

just my opinon.

Barre? Scary? (Just my opinion. ) More working class than Burlington. Maybe a little tougher. It's got the quarries, after all. But, I find it far more neighborly than Burlington. Then again, I lived in Orange when small and Barre was our market town.

(I'm afraid I'm one of those people who has friends who say things like "The best thing about Chittenden County is that it is so close to Vermont." )
