I wouldn't throw it out until you've proofed it to see if it has any oomph left. I would try 1 tsp yeast and 1 tsp sugar in a cup of warm water for 10 minutes to see if it gets bubbly and frothy. If so, I don't see any reason not to use it just because it's past the date- I think the date is for effectiveness, not because yeast goes "bad," KWIM?
