Within weeks of knowing I was pregnant, I had already decided a) that I was having a girl (still don't know for sure) and b) that her name would be Raven Mae. I just really, really like the name Raven; and the middle name I picked because dp's last name (which the baby will have without contest; I hate my last name) is Scottish and I thought "Mae" went well with a Scottish last name. Plus, I thought "Raven Mae" had somewhat of a 'ring' to it. Well no wonder...

A couple days ago it dawned on me that (at least here in Canada) there's a cigarette company called Craven A. It's not the most popular brand, but it's the brand my ex's family all smoked, don't know why I didn't think of it 'til now.

I am not sure if it's going to make me change my mind (at least about the middle name) or not, but it is something to and about for a little while, anyway.

Saw this on new posts.

I'm in Canada, but I don't smoke. I've never heard of Craven A, but I really don't think I'd have made that connection even if I had. I love the name you've picked.

Don't smoke either, HAVE heard of them, but wouldn't give up on a name I liked because it sounds remotely like a minor cigarette brand. Besides, who uses a person's middle name anyways? You will hear more often "Raven {insert scottish last name here}" and very occassionally you might here "Raven Mae XXX". I think it's a nice name and you should keep it if you like it

I had only heard of Craven A when we were in Jamaica. Haven't seen them since either.

Raven Mae is so pretty! No one would make that connection with her name. (Our baby on the other hand, his name will sound almost like Sebastian Bach..lol)

LOL yeah I wasn't really thinking about changing it cause of what other people might think (really didn't think anyone would think of it; actually I am not really planning on changing my mind at all--unless it's a boy!) ...but I just think it's kind of funny that the "special ring" it had to it wasn't necessarily actually cause I really liked it--but because it was product placed on my brain! Heheh

I think smokers are a dying breed lol literally

especially in bc with the rules tightening up about smoking, those brand names will be a thing of the past

Beautiful name! Really though, no matter what name you come up with, someone is going to be able to come up with something that it rhymes with or reminds them of, or that you can rearrange the letters to say. As long as you still love it, enjoy!

I live in Canada, and I have smoked, and that never came to mind when I read the name. Might I very, very humbly suggest you could be over thinking things, just a little?

P.S. I am totally bias, as my dd's name is Raven, and EVERYONE comments on what a great name it is..I'm really hoping you have a girl
