DD's had this rash around one leg for 10 days or so. Sometimes it looks better and sometimes it looks worse. It's started to spread now, and it's on her butt and on her other leg as well. It's raised bumps that sometimes are red, although they don't bother her at all. I don't know if it's just a virus or something, or if it's environmentally caused. I thought maybe it was a reaction to the elastic in her diaper covers as she has one cover where the elastic is just stitched over and isn't surrounded by cloth, but I stopped using that diaper cover and it hasn't helped. I also put her in wool longies one night to see if elastic in general was bothering her, but the rash looked worse in the morning so I don't think that's it. I suppose it could be a reaction to wool as she wears wool covers almost exclusively, but she had been wearing those since she was a few days old. We haven't changed wool washes, and we've been using the same detergent for a couple of months.

http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=DSCN0345.jpg
http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t=DSCN0346.jpg

So...any ideas on what this is, and what could be causing it?

It looks like an allergic type rash or eczema (which imo is an allergy rxn). My ds got it when we moved (both when he was 15 months and then again when he was 25 months. The only thing that really helped was Arbonne baby lotion (I'm not a distributor or anything). His was really itchy.
What about your dd's diet? Have you tried elimination of eggs, dairy, wheat and corn? It could be something as simple as dietary.
She does have a bunch of food intolerances but AFAIK I've found and eliminated all of them. It's definitely not eczema as she's had that in the past.

Looks like heat rash/prickly heat to me. Elastic & wool could both make it worse.

A friend who's a nurse said it looked like heat rash...it's been cooler (more fall weather) lately, though. If wool or elastic were making it worse, any suggestions on what I could try for diapers (short of 'sposies)? I have some PUL covers but I would think they would be worse than wool since wool breathes...and they still have elastic in them.

I'm not sure on the dipes, mama. We use sposies here. I hope someone can help with that. I used to get heat rash when I was little, and it looked just like what your DD has, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Doesn't look like an allergic reaction to me, and definitely not eczema.
