NAIS seeks to microchip and track every livestock animal - even you own a single horse or a pair of chickens. Purported to protect people from mad cow, etc - it's an effort by the Dept. of Ag and Industrial Farming to protect themselves from lawsuits.
In reality, our country already has disease stopping measures in place. This act will shut down 4H, FFA, homesteading and the local food movement.

This is already mandatory in Michigan - other states are poised to join in.

Write your state and federal representatives. Local letters to the editor are also important, because many people have not heard of NAIS.

The purpose of the chip is not to protect us from anything. It is to keep track of how many animals you own.

Should there be an epidemic of let's say 'bird flu' they will know who has how many chickens that they will destroy whether your chickens have anything or not.

In the name of protecting you from getting sick. Doesn't matter if you starve.

That is what is happening in some third world countries right now and there is no way those people can prevent it.

Doesn't the inability to trace animals quickly and completely during the few BSE cases in the US show that the current system is flawed? How would the identification program hurt things like 4-H? As a former 4-Her who showed her own bred and raised animals, I don't see how this would have affected me.

I'm not being snarky, but I really don't see the problem. And isn't it currently a voluntary program? Even if it became mandatory for larger producers, I don't see a big concern and think it might help tracking problems in the many cases of food-borne illnesses that occur each year in the US.

Thanks.

Why don't we ever look how other countries are managing, for instance Japan?

'Currently' yes.
That is how most laws are introduced.

We'll implant chips into animals this year and into our kids next year (just in case they get abducted).
And if you have nothing to hide, why not get yourself implanted with a chip in case you are in an accident and can't tell that you are a diabetic or....

Not funny, it's being seriously considered.

Ok.

The European Union in 2004 adopted a regulation to introduce radio frequency identification chips of goats and sheep. This comes after pilot programs in France and Greece. In Japan, some producers are using RFID on pigs and plan to use it on fish.

Chipping cats & dogs makes me uncomfortable too. Many don't know it's optional. A few weeks back I adopted a puppy from a shelter where they microchip. I said I was NOT having that in my dog, she tried telling me it was "policy" - I said "Not my policy!" She just laughed & shrugged. Noone needs my info. :

Then you won't like 'chipped people'. But that's what the shadow government of the world wants. It's the only way to control a One World Government.

The Gov. is all about desensitization. This is just a way for them to get us ready for the next "step". First, we will be pressured in many different ways to make people voluntarily get one, then it'll be law.
