Yeah. Everyone thinks Natives are rich from Casinos and it's just not the truth. They don't get everything 'free'. They gave up their land, language, way of life for Americans to have their 'Freedom'. Seems like Americans could at least let them have the basics.

because the native people of this continent are still little more than prisoners of war -- hostages in their own land. The gov't still relates to the native people as "enemy". To validate their rights invalidates the treatment they have received for the last 400 years. The gov't continues to undermine the historical reality by keeping native people as impoverished physically and mentally as possible. Luckily there are some native people who are aware and have maintained their self-worth so that they can still stand up for what they need and deserve. but it's an underdog's story due to generations of degradation.

Natives have not been under government rule for hundreds of years, yet.
They haven't even been forced to live on reservations that long, either.

There are actually Natives outside of Minnesota.

http://www.snowwowl.com/maps/mapnortheast.html

MANY NAs fought in the American Revolution.

Many were also placed on Reservations wwwaaayyy before you know.

William Penn's family is who F-ed us the first time. That was in 1737 wwaayy before 1812. Goodness...my tribe had already set a few counties of Pennsylvania on fire (good reason) and participated in a major uprising (1812) before 1819...and we were actually an extrememly peaceful tribe.

What were we doing in Pennsylvania when we are from New Jersey? We had already been relocated.

Yes, Abimommy, I know that, but didn't have time to google and post about the hundreds of different tribes, so I was just using MN as an example.

Didn't a lot of slaves fight in the American Revolution, also?
I ask, because I think those who fought were mislead and not exactly fighting for Freedom for America, kwim?

But that is a bad example. You argument is incorrect, some tribes *have* been living with this government or its early founders for HUNDREDS of years

Yes, it was said in a pp. I was just pointing out the fact that not ALL Natives have been under government rule for 400-500 years.

It is ongoing and hasn't been happening for that long, like most Americans are taught to believe.

I know, that is why it says Chehalis Reservation in Washington. I would hope people know Washington is not New York.
I was showing the difference between East Coast and West Coast.
Sorry, I forget people need everything written out all the time.

From your post it looks like you are saying they were relocated and they weren't. Perhaps you should work on wording things more clearly.

All I have been saying is that *some* tribes HAVE been going through this for hundreds of years and you, in trying to correct someone, are mistaken.

My tribe had a reservation in 1682, the Shawnee in 1700, the Wyandot in 1749...

Okay, back on topic. What needs to change/happen for Native's to get the needed medical care?
For over 20 years I have been attending homebirths on the reservations and reserves because of lack of hospitals near enough to do Labor and Delivery. It would be nice to have some funding to pay for travel expenses, food, and lodging, as I am not opposed to homebirths.
As for the elders, how to get healthcare people to travel to their homes?
Most elders do not have a vehicle, much less drive, and if they are in pain, they aren't going to want to take a two hour ride to the nearest city to see a doctor.

Many of the children do not get healthcare, neither, as they live with grandparents or their own parents do not have a vehicle, either.
A lot of the Traditional Medicine healers have been persecuted and are in prison or in hiding, so the people are left on their own.

I don't have health care either. I think the entire health care system needs to be reworked so EVERYONE can have health care. Trying to get health care of this group or that group and ignoring everyone else isn't going to solve the problem. The problem is NOT natives not getting health care but PEOPLE not having health care. DH's work offered it, it would have cost us $500 a month. This is so much more than we can afford we had to pass.
