I have had some terrible insomnia problems the last few weeks (28 weeks PG) and I just had a friend recommend Natural Calm - it's a powdered magnesium supplement, drunk as a tea, that is supposed to act as a natural muscle relaxer. Anyone have feedback about it - I hate to spend $20 for a bottle and then hate it. I'd also love alternatives to the brand name, if you have any other ideas. I could just take tablets, but the brand claims that the powder is more efficiently metabolized and therefore aids in relaxation more quickly and is just better overall. TIA!

Yup, definitely an awesome investment! We all drink it here (well, except for the newborn
). It also works wonders on moods - magnesium deficiency can manifest as muscle tiredness/twitches, headaches, depression, irritability ... I take it daily to stave off any emotional unsettledness (irritability being my biggest issue). My dh has found that it helps calm his bowels down (he can suffer at times from IBS) and keep things more regular.

Fabulous! I'm so glad I asked! I went this morning and picked some up, and I'm really hoping that it will be a help. I'm really hoping that it will be one of the tools I can use, as a natural mood elevator, to avoid suffering from PPD again with this baby. What a great find, and thank you for your feedback.

I'm also encouraged to hear that your DH takes it, MLW, my DH has RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) and between my sleeping issues right now and his poor legs, we haven't slept in the same bed in a week. I miss him.
I started him on it today too, so I'm really hopeful that we've found a great supplement that will help both of us!

Ahh ... RLS. Yes, I know it personally.
Mine is really bad when I'm pregnant; when I'm not it's just occassionally, especially if I'm really active it seems before going to sleep. But, what helps me most with RLS is the homeopathic Coffea Crudum. I take 4 right when I go to bed. Most nights I'm out within 5 minutes of taking it (totally calms the legs and the mind); if I'm still tossing for about 15-20 minutes, I'll get up and take 4 more. I highly recommend getting him some to take right at bedtime (and also have him take the magnesium). It might really help and allow you two to sleep in the same bed again.

That's great news! Does Hyland's make it? I'll google it, actually - I can figure it out.

This guy is going to get pumped full of all kinds of natural good stuff.
