Are there any natural cures for a yeast infection? My MW told me to just use some over the counter stuff but, I feel weird about all of those chemicals. Anyone use anything different that worked?

Apparently there are some candida tinctures and homeopathics that work well but I was so uncomfortable with my last one that I went right to the generic Monostat 3. Now I just need to remember to be more diligent about my probiotics and eating good yogurt!

Good luck!

I highly recommend GSE (grapefruit seed extract). It worked amazingly for me twice.

Here is a site with some info: http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.asp

here is a blurb from that site:

Grapefruit Seed Extract is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial compound synthesized from the seeds and pulp of grapefruit. It is an extremely potent and effective broad-spectrum bactericide, fungicide, antiviral and antiparasitic compound. Tests have shown that GSE is dramatically more effective than Colloidal Silver, Iodine, Tea Tree Oil and Clorox bleach against five common microorganisms. In studies performed by Dr. John Mainarich of Bio-Research Laboratories in Redmond, WA, samples of each of the common antimicrobials or sanitizing agents were evaluated for effectiveness against Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Streptococcus faecium and E. coli. The other antimicrobials tested were considerably less effective than the GSE.

and there are further links there, too.

I know you already know, but just a gentle reminder to cut out all sugars and white carbs to heal faster. (I have a VERY hard time doing that!).

It can be hard to find GSE that is strong enough/the right kind. Some brands just don't cut it. It really didn't work as well as I thought it should have when we used it for infant thrush... but I think it was the brand not the GSE itself.

A peeled garlic clove (whole, not crushed or cut) inserted in the vagina overnight a few nights in a row should do the trick. Just be sure to insert it high enough that it will stay in. You can also take a silver hydrosol internally that will help get rid of the yeast. You can use it externally to relieve itching too. I believe Pau d' Arco is anti yeast as well as anti fungal and anti bacterial but you don't want to take it internally when pg. Just squirt some on a cotton ball and apply. It may burn a little because of the alcohol so have a hairdryer on hand

Be sure to cut out all refined carbs and sugars as the yeast thrive on these. Alkalizing your body will help too - add acv or lemon juice to your water and sip through the day. Or drink celery juice.

I've had to use combinations of the above several times already during this pg. I don't know exactly what is up with my body. It's very strange and my mw and I can't figure it out because there is no rhyme or reason to my symptoms... and they don't really match up to a yeast infection. I'm starting to wonder if I've developed a sensitivity to our laundry detergent.

Not in your ddc but tea tree oil on a tampon works wonders. Just put one or two drops on, insert it, leave it for a few hours, remove and repeat as necessary.

I've used plain yogurt internally for a yeast infection before for a few nights and it worked wonderfully.

I used kefir vaginally, acidophilus pills orally and drank a TON of water and it cured it for me. Honestly, I think the turning point was upping my water intake because it helped me produce more discharge to clean myself out.

I tried the tampon and tea tree thing years ago and thought I'd burned my cervix off. Cramped up horribly and bled, even though I was midcycle. Wouldn't risk it preggers, personally.

And um, I'm assuming you put a penis up your vagina while pregnant. Probably fingers, as well.

ASSuming you have a normal healthy functioning cervix and smooth pregnancy, it is no problem especially short term. Unless you are on pelvic rest, don't worry about the tampon. I would soak it in yogurt though, not TTO. That stuff is pretty strong and needs to be heavily diluted.

Yogurt is often a good choice, or a peeled clove of garlic. (Side note-I was thrilled that my OB, not an NP or midwife suggested yogurt a couple of weeks ago.)

I like http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.ph...east_Infection for good yeast infection information as well...there are a number of different suggestions there.
